Dear Footie Listener,

Welcome to The 3 Linemen Podcast! My name is Ian and my co-hosts are Luis Lucas and Matt Tombs and we're so glad you're here. If you're a longtime listener of the pod you know sincerity isn't our home currency but here, we very much mean it. Thank you for listening!

If you're new to the pod, an introduction:
Gabe DeLoach, Matt, and I started the pod in Charlottesville, Virginia just after Euro 2016. We were all complete novices to the podcast medium but we enjoyed a common locale, friendship, and genuine enthusiasm for the game. Season one was a blast. We invented games, had special guests into the studio, and watched just so much soccer. Week after week we checked our Soundcloud stats and watched nonexistent listener numbers grow into solidly humble listener numbers.

We had modest but serious goals:
1. Be better than Alexi Lalas.
2. Remember to turn off the mini-fridge before recording started.

Goals emphatically achieved, we returned to the studio for the 2017 season, enthusiasm intact and technical nous improved but somewhere in between Leicester's sacking of Craig Shakespeare and Arsene Wenger announcing his departure from Arsenal all three of us had moved away from Charlottesville. With everyone adjusting to new life situations we hit pause on the pod and didn't make it back that season.

World Cup 2018 really made me want to get recording again and longtime listener and friend Luis Lucas stepped up to become the 3rd Linesman. He brings a new perspective as a lifelong Real Madrid supporter (grew up watching with his tío so while he is definitely a glory hunter it's for reasons other than his galactic soccer leanings). Gabe remains sidelined due to time constraints and we miss him something awful.

We've spent the first part of this season a bit like we did the first in that we don't quite know what we're doing as we coordinate Matt in Australia, Luis in Miami, and myself in Texas all with the added wrinkle of video conferencing replacing in-person and in-studio recording. Each week has seen improvement in planning, sound quality and presentation and, like Emery's Arsenal, it looks like we might be good again!

I'm thrilled that the pod is back in a serious way and feel comfortable presenting it to you here. We'll continue to make up nonsense games, write sackus (sacking Haikus) whenever managers are pre-contractually terminated, I'll talk too much about Arsenal, Matt will try to talk about things that aren't Arsenal and it'll be damn fun. Also, Bendtner updates.

The pod will always be free, but with your help we can make it better. We are asking for modest support from you to help us with hosting and subscription costs. With enough support we would love to print t-shirts and other swag. Thanks for listening and for your dedicated support.

Remember, it's football and it's for your ears!
