About Mike Parish

Hey, this is Mike from 424recording.com. I started a YouTube Channel about two years ago focused on recording tutorials for cassette 4-track enthusiasts and now I'm branching out into lofi and home studio recording. I'm showcasing recording tips and tricks I've developed over the years, releasing original music utilizing these techniques, and teaching people how to achieve the sounds. Over the course of each month, in the videos I release and the live streams I host, I'm giving away all the recording techniques, secrets, and shortcuts I've developed that I wish someone had told me 15 years ago! Check out the YouTube Channel!

Creating the videos on the channel
combines skills I'm curious about and want to develop: writing, filming, lighting, public speaking, teaching, songwriting, music making, and of course, recording. I'll be here doing my thing every week, building a community around music and recording. If the videos and mission resonate with you, entertain you, educate you, inspire you, help you create your artistic vision, or provide you with a community to explore your interests, support me on Patreon!

A special thanks to all the fans and patrons who have watched a video, subscribed to the channel, liked a video, commented on a video, shared a video, disliked a video, joined the discussion on the forum at 424recording.com/forum, told their friends about the channel, sent me an email, hung out on a live stream, sent me equipment, listened to a podcast, bought a tape, given me feedback on the channel and my music both online and in person... without you, I'd just be speaking into the void!

Record something awesome,
Mike / 424recording.com

P. S. Godspeed, my friend! Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel, ya nerd!
P. P. S. Do something you want to do today!

FAQ

I'm new to Patreon as a creator, so here's a brief rundown of what to expect.

How many videos do you release a month?
My release schedule is:
  • One vid per week (usually, though I've been trying to focus more on quality vids over quantity), Fridays 3pm EST
  • One live stream per month (with Jay the Wizard), last Wednesdays 730pm EST

I see you had a podcast... what's up with that?
The podcast is back! Starting September 12th 2019, there will be a new episode every other week thru April 9th 2020 cohosted by Jason from Painted Blonde Tapes. Subscribe and listen wherever you listen to podcasts. For video episodes released a few days early, join the Patreon! For a full list of places to listen, check out https://anchor.fm/424recording

Can I stop donating in the future if I can't afford it?
Yeah! You can cancel or adjust your pledge amount for any reason at any time.

What if I want to support a different tier than the ones listed?
If you'd like to do that, you can write in whatever amount you want during the check out process!

Do I have to pay in US Dollars?
Nah. Everything is shown in US dollars on the website but you can use any currency and it will be automatically converted.

I like those t-shirts you're wearing in the videos... where can I get one?
I launched a new web store for 424 Recording at https://424recording.com

What is the TascFam Preamp?
Jay and I used Kickstarter to raise funds for a preamp based on the Tascam 424 mkiii. We're currently building these and they're sold out. Email me at [email protected] to get on the waitlist in case we have any extra. Here's a link to the project if you wanna check it out: http://kck.st/2EfUQYY

What is The Cure for GAS?
The Cure for GAS is an ebook I wrote about Gear Acquisition Syndrome with tips for overcoming the endless acquisition of gear you don't need. You can download a free copy at 424recording.com. Bet you didn't know I was an author!

Are there any other ways to support you?
Yup! You can send funds for the channel directly through PayPal here: paypal.me/424recording

Any other ways?
All of my music releases are available on a $5 to $whatever sliding scale. You can download my releases here: 424recording.bandcamp.com and here: becoolcowboy.bandcamp.com (all BCC releases are also available on Spotify and YouTube). You can also now download the entire BCC discography for $15. There are also cassette tapes (when available).

Any last ways?
I recently created my first premium recording course, Ready, Set, Record: Drums. This course contains everything you need to know about mono drum recording with up to 4 mics. I'm super proud of it as an educational tool for musicians in need of a simple and effective way to learn how to record drums and retain those skills for a lifetime. I'm revamping my way of releasing courses like this, so stay tuned if you're interested in buying one. Planning on making this and other courses available again in the 2nd half of 2019...

Can I send you stuff, like tapes, gear, postcards, etc.?
Yeah! The address for the channel is:
Mike @ 424 Recording
P. O. Box 151
New Paltz, NY 12561
If there's stuff you wanna see in a video, send it over!

Still have questions?
Email me at [email protected] and I'll help you out!

Goals
13 of 25 patrons
I'm saving the money from Patreon to put toward a dedicated space for the channel. Having 25 patrons would be a major milestone toward that goal!
