About 8bitworkshop

We love writing games for old hardware! That's why we developed the 8bitworkshop IDE, an online tool that lets you program in assembly language or C on the web!

There's no waiting or setup required -- you just type code into your browser and the result appears instantly in the online emulator.

You can write games for 6502-based systems (Atari 2600, NES, Apple ][) or Z80-based systems (arcade game platforms like Galaxian/Scramble). You can even design your own video game hardware with our Verilog compiler.

Your contribution supports continued development of the IDE and tools, because we're adding new platforms and features all the time! It also supports open-source developers that make the tools on which 8bitworkshop depends.

We also publish some books that help you learn how to program retro platforms from scratch. There's plenty of example code to get you started, so go write some games!
