About Aaron Johnson Jr.
I am Aaron Johnson Jr, a young, African-American multidisciplinary artist from Detroit Michigan, currently living in Brooklyn, NY. I am creating a series of five paintings called “Peace, Omnipresence, Dream”. Parts One thru Five: “Yourself”, “Looking Glass”, “Time Is a Virtue”, “Pleasing Self”, and “Nature”. I would describe my work as a meditation on race, religion, and the beauty of black life in the Abstract Expressionist tradition, but using personal symbols and imagery like Frida Khalo and Basquiat. My aim is to impact my audiences’ lives by sparking conversation around these issues and inspire creativity.
Above is my video where I show sketches of the first in the collection of my five-part series – “Yourself”. I’ve also included pictures of a sample location I’d like to rent for the solo exhibition which I estimate will cost $1,200 including hanging fees. I would like to exhibit this series by the winter of 2019-2020.
To fully follow through with these ideas I require investments to purchase art supplies: pencils, paint, canvas, etc. For my part, I plan on selling 100 black and white portraits for $50 on 9x12 Canson sketching paper and I am painting 50 colored portraits for $120 on 16x20 cotton canvas for my investments. All portraits will be artistically captured to the best of my ability from photo recreations.
To follow up on my progress on the “Peace Omnipresence Dream” series, how my drawing skills, and, painting portraits are evolving like my Facebook artist page –
I believe we all live in a world given from a higher source. And sometimes we shade over nature with our own ideas of beauty. Omnipresence means present everywhere. And I see life and inspiration in all. I plan to capture as much beauty I can in multiple depictions to highlight to reflect how we are united.
Thank you for your time.
