About

Maintaining WoW addons isn't an easy job. I have been helping in maintaining addons since 2005, started as translator, then picked up abandoned ones, and creating brand new ones.
Different type of addons require different type of effort. For functional type of addons, new ideas will be popping up, new features require time to be developed, though three could be bugs waiting to be investigated and get resolved. For data or information type of addons, it will take lots of time collecting the data, validating them to make sure they are all correct, and then consolidate them to present to user.

Being a developer and a maintainer of WoW addons, I spent more than half of my online time looking at codes, creating new lines (functions or data), drawing new maps, and validating them. Most of my guild members know it's usually hard to get my immediate response on guild channel as my eyes are usually not on the game screen.

It's kind of interest and or sense of accomplishment which make me keep working on WoW addons. But still I need to live and face the real world. I did receive some donation from users, but that's not happening every month. Sometimes it may not come for more than an entire year. I am hoping by creating a Patreon page will draw some of the users' attention to support on a regular basis to help me and support me keep working on WoW addons.

My Works

Below is the list and summary of the addons I am working on:

Atlas

This is a instance map browser with extension to display other sort of maps like battlegrounds, transportation and routes, class order halls, scenarios, etc.
I picked up the maintainer role since 2011, and we used to have a small team working together. But it's now only me working on this one.

Accountant Classic

This is the addon to help you track your monetary incoming and outgoings within WoW. It logs per-session and running totals of how much money you have spent and earned from vendors / loot / quests etc...
I started as a translator but then the original author has left WoW, so I took it over in 2007 till now.

World Map Tracking Enhanced

This was created in April 2017 right after I created 4 of HandyNotes plugins. The idea is it is quite a trouble to open the interface's option panel, expand the HandyNotes' node, and go to plugin page to toggle which plugin to be shown or hidden. So why not somehow hijacking the built-in's tracking function?

HandyNotes - Broken Shore

This was created in April 2017 just right after the Legionfall force arrived the Broken Shore. I started to add the rare mobs' location for the first version, with the plan to add the treasure nodes in my mind. But soon the players suggest to add treasure nodes, and I implemented it shortly. It seems now this one become a bit popular as it helps a lot while farming those treasure.

HandyNotes - Legion Instance World Quest

This was created in April 2017 which support to show the world quest elite mobs' location, plus specific quest item or NPC's location.

HandyNotes - Class Order Halls

This was created in April 2017. Atlas has a plugin for Class Order Halls while Legion expansion launched. It just came to my mind why not creating a similar feature but directly on WorldMap window.

HandyNotes - Suramar and Shal'Aran Telemancy

This was created in April 2017 with some enhanced features to show the telemancy between Shal'Aran and nodes in Suramar, plus some POIs.

Coordinates Tracking

This was created in September 2016, a light and simple addon to show coordinate information on the screen or on WorldMap window. I am a bit surprise that I have around 2,500 of users while there are already plenty of addons which support the coordinate's displaying.

Currency Tracking

This was created in May 2016, a simple and light addon to help in tracking the currencies on the screen. It started to adoped the WoW's built-in token functions which you can set to track up to 3 currencies while you open your bags, but I make it to show on the screen. And then finally I created new codes to allow to track whatever you want to track.

Atlas World Events

This was created in 2011 outside of Atlas team. I didn't add it to be part of Atlas' official plugin as I want to ease the work load from the team.

Atlas Arena

This was created in 2011 outside of Atlas team. I didn't add it to be part of Atlas' official plugin as I want to ease the work load from the team.

LibBabble-SubZone

This was created in 2010 with the purpose to help on looking up the localized zone names to ease the work load from the translator while translating Atlas or other addons which involved lots of location names.

LibBabble-ItemSets

This was created in 2010 with the purpose to help on looking up the localized names for item sets.

Yatlas

This is a great addon to show the real world's map texture on the map browser. Though the original author quit very early so I took it over in 2011 or even earlier (can't recall....) But it is abandoned at the moment. I hope I can find some time to make it reborn.

FastQuest Classic

I took over this addon's maintenance in the end of 2006 and started to release new version in 2007. This addon project is abandoned at the moment as I was too busy for the past years and not be able to keep it working since WoW has introduce several new changes in 2011.
Some fans adopted some part of the ideas from this addon and create a light version like quest's auto-complete.
I probably won't make this addon reborn as there are already many great addon in quest's enhancement.
