About Blue Kentucky Girl

Thank you for checking out the Blue Kentucky Girl Patreon Site! We're excited you're here. We're thrilled to take this journey through a lost, albeit visceral thread of American history with you. Blue Kentucky Girl is a historical fiction set in the wilds of Appalachia. (I'd like to time travel. Until I discover how to slip back through the standing stones, story telling through historical fiction is the nearest thing to it.) Through BKG, we get to slip back to 1870 to experience the resourceful nature and cutting humor of the southern highlander, otherwise known as the Appalachian Mountaineer. I've also written original songs and a soundtrack to go along with the story.

Why BLUE Kentucky Girl? Well, the blue Fugates were descendent of French Aristocracy, who fled to the USA to escape the French Revolution of 1789. They settled into the reclusive backwoods of Kentucky. Some of their offspring had blue skin. YES blue! Not black Hindi Deity blue, white blue!! (I find it astonishing that most of us Americans have never heard of this before!?!) In addition to the blue Fugates, we also meet up with their rival clan the Stacey's of Scotch-Irish descent, a five dollar Indian, a Reverend/Hex Man from South Carolina, an escaped slave from Alabama and various characters from the back of beyond. A tale of of bigotry, intolerance and the power of love to overcome, ensues.

The Appalachia's are the most ancient mountain range on earth, once standing taller then the Himalaya's. How did these settlers survive such dramatic geographic and climatic conditions with no electricity or running water? No stores, no commercial trade? No slipping down to town to see the doctor or have a tooth pulled? No nipping down to town for a dram of whiskey? (More on that later) Where did they come from? How did they speak? Were they religious? Mystical? Violent? Peaceful?

If you have Scotch, Irish, German, French, Cherokee and/or African blood and were born in the United States, chances are some of the characters in BKG are related to your ancestors.

BKG is written initially as an audio dramatization, think; podcast, radio theater, ear movie, audible book on steroids. We are bringing the story to life with the talent of 29 voice over actors, sound engineers, sound effects, sound design, music production, musicians, a director and production assistant. In time it will evolve into a film or mini series. OK, one ginormous project at a time!

As a patron, you'll gain access to the tale (as well as songs and music) one segment at a time. Then, if you're intrigued and wish to find out more, it's a pay as you go contribution. A journey you can take at your own pace.

When it comes time to audition the actors, we thought it'd be fun to post the cold reads here on the Patreon site and have you vote on who gets the roll. I might ask your opinion on the music and the songs too...They're all original songs written from the POV of the main characters (But not sung by the actors...too corny!) The songs weave a symbiotic relationship with the script and move the plot forward. At least I hope they do! You can tell me.

Your contributions, together with a grant for seed money from a foundation in Kentucky, will enable us to begin the production of our audible presentation. Together we can make this happen and enjoy every step of the way.

Thanks again!
