I am excited to be finishing up a proposal for a book on anxiety and depression and how it intersects with life and faith.

Here's how the book publishing process works:
  1. Writer writes proposal, which is basically a summary of the book and a business plan all rolled into one.
  2. Writer's agent "shops" the book around. My agent has a few publishers in mind for this book and she'll send the proposal to them.
  3. Publishers who are interested will take my proposal to the publishing board, who decides which books the company will publish that year.
  4. If the publisher offers the writer a contract, the writer has about 6 months to write a first draft.
From the moment of contract, it takes an average of two years for a book to be published! It's a long time and a lot of work from everyone involved.

Why I need your support:
  • Writing takes time and time means childcare and childcare means babysitters.
  • Working on a book means other projects (that might mean income) get pushed to the side. Contrary to popular belief, writing a book does not usually increase a writer's income by much.
  • Websites, podcasts, etc. all have small monthly overhead costs even when no new content is being released and creators are working on other things.
