I have an open studio gallery in the little town of Toledo, OR where I work in full view of the public so anyone can watch the creative process in action. People come in every day to talk about art, get tips, or just watch me working. I hear from people all the time that my paintings have opened their eyes to how beautiful kelp actually is. That is my favorite thing about painting - helping people see the beauty that is around them every day.

One of my greatest passions is bringing high quality fine art to everyone.  I have converted the basement below my studio into a classroom to teach middle-school and high-school students how to paint in oils, offer workshops to help artists improve their skills and learn how to promote their work, and have a space where artists can come and hold their own shows and workshops and share in live model expenses to study on their own.  The big challenge for me, as with all artists, is selling enough work to pay expenses and still make a living.  At this point, I have taken a leap of faith.  The better it goes, the more I will be able to share art with my community.

Goals
$6 of $400 per per painting
My husband owns a small restaurant in a small town.  We get by... but I have to work a few hours a day there so I can afford to pay the rent, utilities, and insurance for my studio.  Additionally, all the artwork I sell is currently being used to support the studio and none of it is available to help my family meet our own expenses.  I am also forced to pass up many career opportunities simply because I don't have the time to pursue them.  If I did not have to bear the full weight of the cost of my studio, I would be able to paint more and teach more.

All day every day people walk into my studio and spend time looking at my gallery of work. They always tell me how much they enjoy it and how happy it makes them. That makes me happy, too!  But most of the time they leave without making a purchase.  That's just fine - not everyone can afford art and not everyone has room for art in their homes. Still, it costs me a good deal to provide them with that experience. And it is what I live for, so I don't resent it. If each of those people pledged just a dollar a month in support of what I am trying to do there, my worries would be over and I could fully pursue my calling.  It is a small contribution that will make a very big difference, not just to me but also to the whole community!

I typically produce 2-4 paintings per month, depending on the size.  Patrons can set a maximum per month contribution of as little as $1 a month so that they can control the amount donated.
