Yo!
So glad you're here! My name's Josh and I make art tutorials designed to help artists reach their dreams. Starting "art" is rough. There's a lot to take in, and it can be really overwhelming to know where to start or what to do.

I'm chasing after my dreams of making my own anime and videogame, and I'm sharing what I learn each step of the way through four outlets:

  1. Patreon
  2. Discord
  3. Twitch
  4. YouTube

If Twitch is Behind The Scenes,
YouTube is the TV show,
Patreon Rewards are Movies,
and the Discord is the Community That Ties Them All Together.

My Patreon is my lifeblood and source of my premium content.

The reason I say it's my lifeblood is that Patreon serves as a form of consistency for artists like me, allowing me to reliably know how much I can expect to earn from my art without the variables of YouTube ad revenue, Merch sales, or Twitch donations/bits. In many cases, an artists' solidity can be directly correlated to their Patreon performance.

The reason I say it's my most premium content is because it is: it's the final result of all my training that started on Twitch, was summed up on YouTube, and now fully fleshed out and explained here in real time on Patreon. Think of them like movies.

At the end of the day, I'm an artist. Patreon operates like a magazine subscription, only instead of magazines you're getting whatever the content creator puts out. In my case, the main dish you're getting is exclusive, full length, video art tutorials, but you can get other goodies too depending on which reward level you choose. In essence, you get the cream of the crop of polished explanations of whatever is running through my head and whatever stuff I'm learning at the time, which will range from:

  • Anime Stylization
  • Photobashing and Texturing
  • 2D/3D Concept Art
  • Illustration
  • Animation
  • Writing and World Building
  • Character Design
  • Game Design
  • Coding
  • Music Theory and Composition

The only one on that list that I have any formal training is writing: I have a Bachelor's of Art's in Screenwriting, but everything else is self taught through the powers of the internet. I want to serve as a personal library of sorts, to be a resource to people like you who want to make stuff happen but aren't quite sure how to go about doing it. I'm all about making beginner friendly tutorials, from one aspiring student to another, taught in words and techniques they can actually understand and grasp.

So with that being said, if you want full length art tutorials, and you want to follow and support me in the most tangible way possible on my journey to achieving both of my dreams, Patreon is the way to go! (Past rewards can be bought on my Gumroad)

Currently, I'm releasing tutorials on Anime Stylization.

My Discord is the "core" of my brand online and is the glue that holds everything together.

It's set up like a school, with each category serving as its own "mini discord server" or their own independent community, called "classes". These classes are completely self contained and self run and operate as little city states within the larger server as a whole. In essence, the Discord is just made up of different classes.

Classes are capped at around 100 to ensure that everyone has a voice and a chance to develop connections and not get lost in the void. They're led by community elected Class Reps that can customize the class to the liking of the students by adding new channels, customizing channel names, hosting their own events, and generally developing their own class culture.

By setting up the Discord like this, students can meet fellow artists and grow and learn from each other, accelerating their learning through:

  1. Student Centered Learning and bypassing
  2. The Curse Of Knowledge that so often plagues art teaching communities.
If you're looking to accelerate your artistic development and join a fun, active, and encouraging art community, check out my Discord! It's free!

My Twitch Stream is where you can learn with me in real time.

My Twitch Stream is about as "behind the scenes" as you can get, where my viewers can see my learning and practice techniques for overcoming the challenges of learning and then mastering new material: my Twitch is the "behind the scenes" to my YouTube. Two out of three streams are real time art sessions where I can answer questions and interact with my viewers as artistic problems come up, and then the other times I’m enjoying and learning from games themselves. Streaming on Twitch makes me more accessible and personable, giving me the opportunity to interact with viewers and answer their questions and encourage them in real time.

Currently, my Twitch Stream documents my journey to land a job as a concept artist at Riot, so I can get a glimpse into the inner workings of a successful AAA company and their pipeline, while still working in a stylized aesthetic.

And lastly, there’s my YouTube: my video journal documenting every step of my journey.

My YouTube works as a kind of video library of all the lessons I’ve learned and thoughts I’ve had throughout my adventure. All the videos on my channel can either fall into the "Make an Anime" or "Make a Videogame" category, and it functions as more polished version of Twitch. It's not just a place to dump Twitch VODS, though: a better way to think of my channel is to see it as a TV Show, or a collection of short video essay's and mini tutorials that make up my life and who I am as a person.

Currently, my YouTube Channel is focusing on making an anime as an American, and it's looking to be quite the adventure. I want to document every step of the way: from learning how to draw, to learning Japanese and its culture, to one day moving to Japan and all that that will entail.
