What are you doing?
I am writing to hopefully cause my readers to question their traditions and rules they have and ask is this really what God requires? 2 Timothy 3 and Mark 7 both talk about people being caught up in a false Godliness who become obsessed with the rules of men and pointless traditions, or worse, rules and traditions that actually go against God. My hope is that, like Jesus, this will lead to abundant life and an unhindered spiritual life to be able to run the race God has marked for each of us (John 10, Hebrews 12). You can can take or leave anything here without judgement.
Why are you doing this?
To put it simply this is the utilization of the talents that God has given me. If you read the parable of the talents in Matthew 25.14-30 and Luke 19.12-28 it is easy to see that each of us has been given resources by God, whether these are physical, material, intellectual, spiritual etc. God gave me a gift to be able to do something and I feel compelled to do so for His glory. The second reason is because I have felt burdened for most of my church life listening to people talk about their god in the box. The things that are beyond their god, what their god can’t do, how God is marginalized because they have no faith or have shut Him out of aspects of their life. The God I know is one without limits (1 Kings 8.27). I want to share my God.
Why do you leave passages as references?
While Jesus would cite verses when He spoke I find that giving a person the verse tends to make them just accept what is said and allows for scripture to be twisted out of context. I want to encourage you to be more like the Berean Jews who heard the Apostle Paul and examined the scriptures to make sure Paul was speaking the truth (Acts 17.10-14).
What qualifies you to talk on these matters?
Same thing that qualifies any true child of God, being with Jesus (Acts 4). I’m not going to hide the fact that I have a Master’s degree or that I have decades of experience teaching, or that I have read through the Bible over 30 times. But that isn’t what qualifies me. I know secular students of the Bible. Some know it better than me, but they bear no fruit, they don’t know Jesus, they only know of Him. What really qualifies me is that I am walking with Jesus.
Why do you take payment?
I simply believe the Apostle Paul’s words in 1 Timothy 5.17&18 if you preach or teach you have the freedom to receive a living from that work. If you benefit from this ministry and want to contribute to what I am doing feel free, and if not please give thanks to God for the benefit you’ve received (which, obviously, you should also do even if you do contribute). Whatever I get from this I believe I have the responsibility to God to be faithful whether it is a little or a lot (Luke 16). And God will hold me accountable for that. I largely suspect that it will go to take care of some of my basic daily needs and the needs of people I find around me. If I find I have a lot of money coming in I may have to undertake other projects to use it to help the poor.
How often do you post?
The current plan is once a week.
Future projects
At this time I have thought about doing devotionals using either new ideas or from a collection of my best blog posts or a collection of related posts, but have nothing else in my heart right now in terms of expanding outside of sharing the gospel with people who will listen. I might create video messages at some point, but for now I simply want to largely be uplifting, even if I share difficult things from time to time.
I would like to help in the creation of church planting teams, not only where I live, but throughout Asia. I am looking into this more to see whether or not there are groups I can support or if there is something I can built from the ground up.
