About

Hello, how are you? I'm Harriet Dyer, an alternative comedian, writer, speaker based in the UK. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Bipolar and ever since then I've been taking about mental illness in my comedy, here is an example of such
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/disability-39379545/h...

Due to my mental health I started to find gigging difficult so crafted my own little circuit of opportunities that worked best for me:

Barking Tales is my mental health comedy night. All the comedians do material related to mental health and the audiences that come tend to have mental health issues too. It's one of it's kind, has built up quite the little community and in 2019 it won City Life / Manchester Evening News "Best Comedy Night in Manchester" beating big dogs like The Comedy Store / Frog and Bucket etc and then in 2020 it won Chortle Best Themed NW Comedy Night, both of which I am most chuffed about.

As a lot of people that come to the night are too ill to work / on benefits / volunteer etc there's no entry fee, it's just donations after if people can afford it and anything made goes back in to the night, I make nothing from it myself. I'd love for more to be put in to this night as obviously the more money that goes in, the better acts we can get, I try to do a Christmas special for everyone with buffet and all that and then there's extras like when someone comes from far away so I need to pay out for hotel etc too.

I'm currently doing a complete re-branding of Barking Tales so that when we are back after lockdown it's bigger and better than ever, with merchandise, hopefully continuing to be in London too as well as Manchester and will continue to have a version of Barking Tales online on the Wednesdays it's not occurring in real life. Obviously the more given, the more I can do.

I want to re-brand and re-launch my, "Don't Worry, Bi (polar) Happy" podcast too, merge it with Barking Tales too / give it an overhaul. All very exciting. So yes, thank you so much for reading, if you can bung anything to help with any of these projects I'd be oh so grateful. If you're more of a one off donation kinda person head to buy me a coffee dot com forward slash harriet dyer comedy and do your worst. If you can't afford anything, absolutely no bother at all but do perhaps give us a lil Cher or lovely review?Have yourself a splendid day, thanks so much.
