Mother nature yields art through the glass of Father time.
Their children breathe in words you find
when they strike a chime with you.
I’ve wanted to be a writer since before I finished school. I think the biggest reason for this is because I read literature that thought it could change the world, and it did, because it changed the author who wrote it, and it changed the people who read it.
But reading also gave my life a contradiction. Literature brought me inner peace, a sense of communion with the greatest minds and stories of our shared human past, and yet it also brought outer strife, a reaction against my predestined path through life, an onslaught of so many ideas, thoughts, stories, and dreams that I wasn’t able to rest nor feel contented with myself anymore. Writing is the way I resolve this contradiction.
I had no wish to continue climbing up the ranks of society. I didn’t go to university and I’ve never used my grades for anything. I travelled to Japan, and found there the first sprouts of my poetic voice. I travelled to Italy, and there found an idyll of contemplation and beauty. I travelled to Russia, and there I learnt what it means to be a writer, that it’s not a hobby, a job, not even just a passion, but a need, a will, an eye with nothing beyond its sphere, a soul with nothing outside its realm.
And I’ve wanted to be a poet every since I understood how the rhythm between words can best express a feeling or a message or a belief or an experience. Poetry is both a flurry of passion and a need for a structure within which to express myself. It is both a telescope focused on the minutest detail and a watercolour painting taking in a vast landscape of human emotion and experience. Poetry is both a form of sublime deception and the only way of me communicating to you the reality of my words.
Adventure and nature, futility and love, the pitfalls of society and the struggles of our generation, epics on a cosmic scale and the individual pain of loss, how it feels to be unable to convey your thoughts to others, the plight of the voiceless, communicating loneliness…well, everything from the meaning of life to limericks! Nothing is off limits in my writing, and I want to share that creative process with you too.
My partner is a very talented illustrator and it has been my pleasure to see my poems brought to life through her art. I can’t wait to share them with you!
You can be part of the journey! You can share with me your love of poetry and I can reignite the flame of your creativity. I’ll make you laugh after a long day, but always give you something to think about. I’ll make you feel like you can conquer the world with just some lines of poetry. And with your help, who knows... maybe we can!
