Who am I?

Hello, I'm jimlapbap. (And I'm Moogie. And I'm Wesley. And I'm out of names for myself. To which you respond "Hi, Outofnamesformyself!")

I do what I call "extreme" arrangements: Typically, music from one style arranged in a style "extreme"ly different from it. A more accurate term might be "postmodern," but that's already been claimed.

I've been making music on YouTube going on 11 years now. Almost every video is 100% arranged/recorded/performed/produced/edited by me only. My most popular video is a sea shanty version of "Sail" by AWOLNATION:

(this one)

I also have many madrigal, barbershop, and ragtime arrangements of pop songs.

There are 250+ videos of all sorts of musical ideas on my YouTube you can get lost in for hours. Everything from grunge arrangements of Malaysian classic pop tunes to original songs about time travel to Irish medleys of pop songs (a yearly St. Patrick's Day event since 2013!).

(With a guest vocalist!)

The main thing is the music. Sometimes, I throw the score online for all to see if I cannot make a recording myself. Sometimes, I'll record myself and then lip-synch to it. Sometimes, I'll go all out and greenscreen myself to make it more like a music video.

I also entertain suggestions or customized arrangements for your group.

As a musician, I've been in rock bands, jazz bands, classical orchestra, chamber ensemble, experimental music ensembles, musical theater, Japanese music ensembles, Indonesian music ensembles, and I've written for just about everything there is. I lived in Japan as a child and just returned to the US from Malaysia, and I've also lived in Hawaii, so I'm from nowhere and everywhere, which is why I like transcending musical boundaries.

Being a patron:

Contributions here help keep me making new material for YouTube, and the more contributions I receive, the more I can dedicate to the production value, mainly on the audio side, but also on the video side. I only charge for a major video release (full songs) or 3 minor video releases (excerpts, clips).

I will make a video of Sail without any fancy effects of pitch correction.
