What is this?

Hi there, thanks for looking at this page! For those of you who don't know about Patreon:

Patreon is a way for people (patrons) who want to pay creators to continue to create.

I set my membership to only $1/video produced (usually anywhere from 1-3 videos per month). You can completely control how much you pledge. You can set a monthly limit to any amount you want, or, you can increase your amount beyond the minimum $1/video (which several people have done, so I'm grateful!). The money gets taken out at the beginning of each month.

Who am I?

Hello, I'm jimlapbap. (And I'm Moogie. And I'm Wesley. And I'm out of names for myself. To which you respond "Hi, Outofnamesformyself!")

I've been making music on YouTube since 2008. Almost every video is 100% arranged / recorded / performed / produced / edited by me, and me alone (unless otherwise stated). My most popular video is a sea shanty version of "Sail" by AWOLNATION:

(this one)

I also have many madrigal, barbershop, and ragtime arrangements of pop songs.

There are 250+ videos of all sorts of musical ideas on my YouTube you can get lost in for hours. Everything from grunge arrangements of Malaysian classic pop tunes to original songs about time travel to Irish medleys of pop songs (a yearly St. Patrick's Day event since 2013!).

(With a guest vocalist!)

I also entertain suggestions or customized arrangements for your group.

Production Value:

The main thing is the music. Sometimes, I throw the score online for all to see if I cannot make a recording myself. Sometimes, I'll record myself and then lip-synch to it. Sometimes, I'll go all out and greenscreen myself to make it more like a music video.

My background

As a musician, I've been in rock bands, jazz bands, classical orchestra, chamber ensemble, experimental music ensembles, musical theater, Japanese music ensembles, Indonesian music ensembles, and I've written for just about everything there is. I lived in Japan as a child and just returned to the US from Malaysia, and I've also lived in Hawaii, so I'm from nowhere and everywhere, which is why I like transcending musical boundaries.

Why be a patron?

Being a patron helps keep me making new material for YouTube, and the more contributions I receive, the more I can dedicate to the production value, and the occasional contract payment to other performers.

I only charge for a major video release (full songs) or 3 minor video releases (excerpts, clips).
