It is important that practical opportunities are provided for women to care for ourselves and to be cared for...for us to create healthy spaces in which women can develop community and define/redefine self, sisterhood, family and friendship.

Through creating retreat spaces in which women can find a renewed commitment to their well-being, I am unapologetically encouraging self-care through a social justice lens to make self-care accessible beyond the customary social constructs.

Events such as The LEAP (Living in Excellence, Abundance and Productivity); The Ministry of Black Women's Self-Care; Big Belly Blues: A Self-Care Approach to Transforming Your Body; and Self-Care, Surviving, Thriving and Other Revolutionary Acts are all events designed to center women's needs while promoting a holistic understanding of self.

I, Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae), am a Womanist, mother, wife, grandmother, preacher, poet, singer,
musician, Social Justice activist, advocate, lecturer and educator. I hold a dual BA in English and African and African American Studies with a certificate in Women’s Studies, from Duke University, and an M.Div from Union Theological Seminary, in the City of New York, with a concentration in Theology and the Arts, Interreligious Studies and Interfaith Dialogue. Upon graduating from Union Theological Seminary, in 2010, I was the inaugural recipient of the Robert E. Seaver award for scholarly distinction in Theology and Arts. Embracing an ethic of love in all things, I engage the world with a belief in interconnectedness and the responsibility of individuals to first love themselves because this self-love affects the ways that they interact with those with whom they are sharing their world.

My commitment to a different and more accessible understanding of self-care comes from recognizing a societal pathology that caters to exclusivity and the practice of "othering". I seek to unseat it in the practice of questioning that which is not loving, identifying that which is not helpful and replacing those things, unapologetically, with practices that remind us of the dynamic and divine nature of humanity. This self-care is more attuned to soul-care and seeks to care for the deeper parts of our womanhood and reconnect our broken pieces, both individually and collectively.
