Welcome, 

my name is Philipp and I launched ModAPI in 2015 to enable modding for the popular Unity3D game "The Forest". In the last three years the ModAPI community has grown and more games like "Raft", "Green Hell" and "Escape the Pacific" are now supported by ModAPI thanks to the dedication of our team. With this Patreon campaign we would like to finance another exciting journey for ModAPI.

What is ModAPI? 
The ModAPI was so far only a hobby project for which I had too little time to meet all the requirements of the community. The first version of ModAPI brought problems with it, which I didn't consider at the beginning. Therefore, I would like to make this better with a new version. Since I program to earn my money, I don't have enough time for ModAPI 2.0. I program as often as I can on ModAPI 2.0 and yet a release is still in the distant future. So I'm facing a problem, which I want to solve with this Patreon campaign: Develop full-time on ModAPI 2.0.

The projects to fund:

ModAPI 2.0

The main focus of this project is to create an amazing user experience for modders and players.
To accomplish this goal, we rely on the Googles Material Design and a new, more easy and straightforward way to modify the game files by applying mods at run-time instead ahead of time.

The other big change: A full integration of our new Discourse community system inside ModAPI itself. This way you can contact the modders directly, leave feedback or rate mods.

There are a lot of other small and big features for the future of this project.

Feature overview
With your help we want to implement the following features:

  • Applying Mods to the game at run-time via an overlay.
  • Full integration of our Discourse community system.
  • Improved security by analyzing mods and preventing access to certain namespaces.
  • Official support of multiplayer games (not bypassing VAC). ModAPI will use a same-mod policy for multiplayer to ensure every player uses the same mods.
  • Improve long-term security by delivering Mono to your machine so your PC is compiling the mods. If there is a security problem an update of ModAPI is enough to fix it.
  • The possibility to release mods as open-source projects so other modders can contribute.
  • Accessing, depending on or modifying other mods. This will make mod libraries possible.
  • The ability to mod every Unity3D game as long as it uses the mono backend. (Still reasearching how to accomplish modding of IL2CPP games)
  • An asset explorer, extractor and replacer. Say hello to UHD texture and localization mods.
  • To add new assets you will be able to use AssetBundles created with unity our one of the many asset importers offered by ModAPI.
  • A comprehensive toolkit for mods to rely on with stuff like secure file access, localization, permission system, in-game console, logging, configuration, game object hierachy inspector and much more.
  • As many fail-safes as possible so most people will never see an error message at all and if it will most likely tell you exactly what's going wrong and how to fix it.

But your money doesn't only allow me to pay my rent and bills. They also enable me to rent servers, localize the ModAPI without the need to rely on voluntarily translators from the community and much more.

ACNH: Design Pattern Editor
The Design Pattern Editor is a tool which enables CFW users to modify the design patterns in their savegame, share them with others and quantize imported images.

Features overview:
  • Loading the savegame and showing all of your design patterns.
  • Cloning of design patterns
  • Swapping of design patterns
  • Deleting design patterns
  • Importing a picture (png, gif, jpg, bmp, webp) as design pattern with different color quantization algorithms etc.
  • Importing ACNL, ACNH and QR codes.
  • Edit patterns with a lot of tools. Editing is happening in 32-bit and can be quantized to your liking.
  • Edit pattern supports layering and importing smart objects (images).
  • Support for full 24-bit colors. (of course you are still limited to a palette of 15 colors)
  • Supports transparency.
  • Save your designs as project files (keeping all layers).
  • Exporting a picture (as png, gif, jpg, bmp) to share it with others
  • Exporting a design as QR code (only legacy designs work)
  • Full support for pro designs (including legacy 3DS designs like the horned cap)
  • Preview of patterns in 3D.
  • Of course saving your savegame.
  • Windows and Mac support. (Linux comes soon)

The distant future
We wont stop there and want to continuously improve ModAPI. Besides new features we also plan to support even more games by expanding to other engines and even programming languages like Unreal Engine and Python. To decide what we'll do in the future we rely on your feedback.
