Thank you for your interest in supporting Model 3 VINs! My primary focus is tracking production of the Tesla Model 3 using Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) data. Updates are posted frequently on my Twitter page, @Model3VINs.

If you find value in my work and would like to contribute, I'd greatly appreciate any and all support! I'm hoping to continue ramping my coverage and analysis, and I have a number of interesting projects in mind for the future. Your support would also help cover hosting fees, dev servers, and other monthly expenses. If you have any questions about the data or would like to provide feedback, please feel free to reach out.

Background:

@Model3VINs tracks production of the Tesla Model 3 using VIN data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This VIN registration data helps power the Bloomberg Model 3 Tracker, which has accurately and consistently predicted Model 3 production over the last year. In addition to VIN registration volume, VIN codes can be used to discern whether vehicles are single or dual-motor and if they are intended for local or international markets. These breakdowns have been extremely useful in predicting the start of dual-motor and European production, as well as the mix of vehicle sales. VIN codes for model year were also used to accurately determine production in the early months of the Model 3 ramp (H2 2017).

I started this project for a couple of reasons. I’ve been a Tesla fan, supporter, and investor for many years, and naturally was very interested in the launch of the long-awaited Model 3. VIN registrations seemed like a promising resource for tracking Tesla's progress, and it also provided me with an opportunity to have some fun with data. As a result, I decided to set up a Twitter bot that would send out notifications when new VINs were registered. Since launching the account in October 2017, @Model3VINs has grown to over 8k followers, with 1M+ tweet impressions every month! Content has also increased over time, including the recent addition of a website, with interactive visualizations of Model 3 VIN batches as well as daily DMV registrations of all Tesla vehicles from Norway and The Netherlands.
