Nurturer: Group Children's Homes
$3
per month
Your $3/mo contribution goes to fund our monthly Art Bus visits to two St Petersburg group children's homes. Each month we visit up to 50 children --toddlers to 17 years old-- for open-ended art activities.

Real life story: Recently we crossed paths with a 3rd grader who used to be a resident at one of the group homes we visit. He's now back with his mother and when he saw the Art Bus (visiting his school) he knew immediately it was the same bus that he used to see when he was at the children's home. He said when he and his brothers lived there they always got SO excited when they saw the Art Bus roll in.

Funders at this level will receive images of our work at the group children's home. No faces or identifying characteristics will be photographed.

This level also includes:

  • Access to patron-only images & inspiration
  • Patron-only polls
Raising Hope: Justice Studio @JDC
$5
per month
Your $5/mo contribution goes to fund Justice Studio, our twice weekly in-house studio art program at the Pinellas Regional Juvenile Detention Center. This facility serves Pinellas, Polk, Highland, and Hardee counties and houses 80-100 children, ages 8-17 (yes, 8!).

Funders at this level will receive updates about our work at JDC. This may include stories or photos, but no names will be used nor will faces or identifying characteristics be captured in images.

This level also includes:

  • Access to patron-only images & inspiration
  • Patron-only polls

per month
Your $10/mo contribution goes to fund our visits to two group children’s homes as well as Justice Studio, our in-house studio art program at the Pinellas Regional Juvenile Detention Center (JDC).

Each month we visit two St. Petersburg group children's homes and work on art projects with up to 50 children ages toddler to 17 who are short or long term residents there.

We also make twice-weekly visits to the 120 bed JDC, where about 100 youth, ages 8-17, are detained for an average stay of 21 days.

About Carrie Boucher

THANK YOU to all of our patrons who have recently jumped on board! Holy smokes!

Hi, I'm Carrie.
I'm a quietly rebellious social practice artist. My lineage includes pirates & detectives and I revel in solving impossible problems. I've never had a favorite color and have a little trouble following rules. My best creative tools are an insatiable curiosity and a compulsive need to test the bounds of possibility.

I'm an artist.
My background is in visual art, but currently find myself in an immersive practice, which means my whole existence is one big art project and it’s difficult for me to know where my edges are. I am the founding artist of the NOMAD Art Bus which exists with the mission of giving all people access to art programming. I spend my days navigating the territory between art supplies and air brakes.

I'm on a mission.
I had no premonition that I'd be walking (driving?) this path back when I was working my way through art school, but when funding cuts started pulling art programming from schools in my area I responded by building an art room inside a bus and taking to the streets so that everyone could have art class again. We go to places like group children's homes, juvenile detention centers, domestic abuse shelters, and rec centers in areas of high poverty to make connections and facilitate joyful art experiences. It's my biggest, most impossible project yet, but it works because I have lots of help...I'm humbled to have other teaching artists and advocates on board pushing the movement forward with me. At the end of the day I can’t seem to separate myself from this curious and creative practice, and that is what keeps me driven.

I could use your help.
I want to keep doing this. I've been at it full time for over four years now and the Art Bus group has grown quite a bit since our 2014 launch. We work hard and have gained a lot of momentum, and it's not slowing down anytime soon. We get some funding to do the work -- to cover some art supplies and fuel -- but there are still gaps. If you become a patron it will help with those gaps to keep this whole thing rolling. Take a look at the patron levels to see if there's one that works for you...and spread the word. Thanks!
Goals
$801 of $1,210 per month
Reaching this goal funds our monthly visit to two group children's homes and it allows us the financial stability to begin regular visits to the Pinellas Juvenile Detention Center.
