About Abe Drayton

Welcome to Oceanoxia! This patreon is at the center of my work, through fiction and through nonfiction, to try to leave the world a little better than I found it.

The titular blog, Oceanoxia, is focused on the science, politics, and policies of global, man-made climate change. We have passed the point of no return, and it falls to us all to take on the Herculean task of finding a way to build a just, humane, and equitable civilization even as the rising seas tear at the foundations of our current one.

For my patrons, there is also Brigadoon, Space Station in the Mists, which is a hopefully entertaining tale that serves both as an escape, and as a way to think about the kinds of societies humans have formed, and may yet form in the future.

I think it's important to have hope, and to have a positive goal to work towards. While I don't view a space-born B&B as the society we want to build, I do hope that in telling the story of Brigadoon and her crew, I'll be able to create some Impressionist imagery of the different kinds of worlds we might be able to build, as a species.

If/when this level is reached, I'll be able to start an online science fiction lit mag that will pay people for stories that fit the general theme and goals of the blog.

I've set the cost for this pretty high because it's important to me to do this right, and that means paying well for people's creative work, and hiring people to help choose stories for publication.

If my circumstances change such that I'm able to get started with this before we hit the goal, then I'll do so, and lower the goal appropriately.
