In February 2009, I was living on the street in my trusty 1983 Toyota Dolphin, "the Turtle." One afternoon as I drove my "house" back to my office in Boulder I heard Bon Jovi sing "I've seen a million faces and I rocked 'em all!" and I got this idea.  I thought I could photograph a million faces and rock them all!

It's been nearly 10 years since the first photo session, and it's time to start moving the stories out of my journals and hard drives, and into the world.  Each photo starts with a simple question: “What’s your message to the world?” People write their message on a white dry erase board and while I take their picture my goal is to capture the full embodiment of the message and let the beauty of each person who steps in front of my lens shine through.

When I photograph people, something magical happens. They relax. They take off their masks, their guardedness dissolves and in this moment, the simple and yet powerful experience of being seen creates a truth that inspires everyone who sees it. I see OMFProject as a dialogue from the open heart of the person who has ever stepped into the magical space in front of my lens with you, the viewer. It is a doorway through the complexities and noise of modern life into a single moment, preserved in my photographs. That doorway is an invitation to the viewer to find resonance, connection, and familiarity in another’s eyes. There is a delicious awakeness that comes from being in the present moment, a judgment-free zone, that reminds us that we are here together on this journey of human life. The experience of being seen, heard and of expressing through the creation of art is a powerful process for all involved.  I am so excited to devote my time and attention to this work that moves and inspires me daily.

The OMFProject has inspired connection and community across Colorado in particular. As the creator of the One Million Faces Project my passion is to inspire people, connect community, spread hope, love and peace through a tapestry of faces. With over 12,000 faces to date and counting, I can tell you that I have. But don’t just take my word for it… Look at the images here and you will see exactly what I mean.

In 2014 the OMF team worked with the Elementary school community in Lyons, CO creating "Time to Shine", giving kids an artistic outlet to express their feelings from the Sept 2013 floods that displaced them and devastated their town. Each morning I led students in a short yoga sequence followed by creating artful collages on wood panels. This powerful community installation resides on the walls of the school a shining example of art and yoga coming together to help the children of Lyons Elementary in their recovery by letting their littlest voices be heard.

“Peggy’s work has changed our lives, it helped me know I have powerful words.” Sophie Pike, 3rd grader

“I am a resident of Lyons, mother of two Lyons Elementary students and a flood survivor. This "Shine" project was exactly what our community needed. You could feel the excitement in the air. The trauma of the flooding, loosing all of your possessions, being without a home and once again transitioning back to school was difficult for us all. With smiles, dancing, singing and love Peggy helped us all to SHINE”. Bernadette Taylor - parent

Andrew Moore, school principal, commented, "The One Million Faces Project has helped our community commemorate the highest aspects of our experience with the flood: our newfound sense of grit, resilience, and interdependence. Peggy's work has inspired our entire community by bringing joy, music, and art to our healing - we cannot begin to understand the reach this work is having on our collective experience and psyche."

My powerful images have also benefitted non-profit organizations, like ARC, The Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, Off the Mat into the World, the Davis Phinney Foundation, the Give Back Yoga Foundation, and Eat, Breathe, Thrive and more.

"Peggy brings out the smile in those who are subjects and in the viewer - She has a gift, and with it, she is simply shedding light on humanity. The scope of the project is huge but she's focused on one image at a time. It's beautiful to be part of the process. Her work with the Davis Phinney Foundation has put a face on Parkinson's Disease in a way that touches thousands of lives daily. She has made our work easier because as they say, a photo is worth a thousand words." Connie Carpenter-Phinney, Gold Medal winning Olympian

Thank you so much for supporting my work in the world.
