An old Hawaiian tradition has been the "calabash", where a person with certain talents gives instruction, freely, presenting an empty calabash (a gourd bowl) for contributions on a "give what you can" basis.

I have been giving my time freely for more than a decade, every week, to support the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters and Painting Out There groups and would like to expand my involvement by giving more time for instruction and nurturing the arts and artists of the Big Island.

$80.90 of $1,000 per month

I have been coordinating the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters and the Painting Out There groups for more then a decade and I've noticed real changes in the quality of the member's paintings over time, so much so, that I would like to hold more focused workshops, more often for a reasonable price, as well as video record art demonstrations to reach a wider audience, especially younger artists, whose schools do not offer a comprehensive art program.  My goals are to expand my teaching base by offering more and reasonably priced alternatives to students interested visual arts.
