About Christopher R. Rice

My name is Christopher R. Rice, I write, design, and create content for roleplaying games, more specifically, GURPS. I have played and written RPGS for over twenty years. Since February 2011, I've been creating content professionally. In that time, I've been published 66 times in Pyramid magazine (including three times where I was twice in an issue) during it's 10 year run, playtested dozens of game supplements, and helped to write a good chunk of GURPS Thaumatology: Ritual Path Magic. I wrote GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 19: Incantation Magic with my frequent co-author, Antoni Ten Monrós and Dungeon Fantasy Traps with Jason "PK" Levine for the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game, which was successfully Kickstarted in September of 2016. I wrote my first solo GURPS work in July 2019 with the publication of GURPS Monster Hunters: Power-Ups 1. I acted as a consultant for GURPS Aliens: SparrialsGURPS Monster Hunters 5: Applied Xenology and GURPS Monster Hunters 6: Holy Hunters. I also occasionally do “for-hire” work creating custom material or bespoke campaign settings. (Email me here if interested.)

I have a highly active RPG blog, where I release content twice a week or more. The majority of this content is for GURPS, but I plan to release material related to my freelance projects for various other roleplaying games there as well. I roam the Steve Jackson Games forums (in my name). RPG.net forums (as "Ghostdancer"), and GURPS Discord (as "Ravenpenny"), where I answer questions about my favorite game engine(s) that folks may have.

I want to get in touch with those who follow my work on Patreon, to see what sorts of things they’d like to see me produce in the future. My plan is give patrons access to special content, to give a voice in what material gets released for everyone, and admission to the archive of content I’ve curated over my time with Patreon.

I will also be releasing fiction on this platform as I expand my writing career into that area. This will mostly be fantasy or science fiction and will have it's own separate backer level for those who are interested in it (I don't want to clog up the RPG pipeline I have with fiction or vice versa), though backers at tier $10+ will get automatic access to such materials.

Eventually, I will start creating a PDF(s) and release it on the the 5th (for RPG content) and the 10th (for fiction) of every month as a "Patreon Special." The gaming topics will be varied (and feel free to suggest one to me), but will probably be GURPS mechanics or topics pertaining to them. For fiction, I intend to do the same, and will probably curate material that is set in the same universe or universes.

These specials will only be available to my patrons here at Patreon and only to those who are patrons in the month of a given PDF’s release. The more patrons I have the more often I'll release a Patreon Special. Think of them as mini-supplements (because that's basically what they are). If I hit specific reward tiers then these specials will eventually become available to everyone and patrons will both decide what is released and get early access.

Real Talk: If you’re wondering, “why not just keep them available?” I have done that in the past and the result is that some (not all) patrons do a “dine and dash.” They grab everything from the previous months, cancel their patronage, and I’m left hanging in the wind. That’s soured me a bit. I like to think that’s a rarity and that if you’re patronizing me it’s because you want to see me succeed, but this is the way it’s got to me be. I will be allowing patrons (only) to access past specials, if they desire, by paying for them separately (via Paypal). Email me if you're interested in doing this.

On a personal note, my sole source of income is what I make freelancing. Being diabetic means that a good chunk of that money goes into supplies that I need to stay healthy and alive – so please, consider becoming a patron and supporting my blog.

Goals
92% complete
“Patron Specials Are Given, Not Taken!”
Patrons will get the option to release one previous special or current special to all patrons and all non-patrons once every month or make all $1 and $2 Patron specials of that month available for everyone.
