Origin Of The Plague Doctor (Backstory behind the creation of this class. Optional)The Church bells rang that day. I stood in the courtyard standing in the cold rain. The rats ran rancid in the streets. In front of me lay the body of the woman I swore to spend the rest of my life with wrapped in linen. The rain trickled down the brim of my hat slowly pooling by my feet. The wind blew through my tattered clothes that would normally send a shiver down my spine. I looked down to arms, a greenish rash now spreading all the way from my spine.
The priest coughed beside me holding a torch that slowly sputtered when the rain hit it. I looked around and I saw the ones who like me had lost it all. A Mother sprawled on the corpse of her husband and child weeping. A small child stood alone there, his face covered in a green rash. It would only be a matter of time before it claimed him too. The Cold seemed to slow it from spreading faster but it seemed to also make the days appear like the last ones were near. The priest tossed the torch on the corpses setting them ablaze. He began muttering a prayer, the old fool. If there were gods would they really let this occur?
The gods were dead and damn thee who says otherwise. I saw the bodies slowly turning into ash, blowing away. What was the point? Prolonging the inevitable some would say. I was so close to a cure I knew it just needed to leave this place and find better ingredients. If I leave this town as I am, I would be surely die.
My mask would have to work, the freshly plucked poppies should dull the pain long enough for me to know what I need. Someone out there must know how to cure this. I headed over to my small hut and I saw the fires from the glint of the window panes. The flames began eating away at my wife, whilst part of my heart began to feel like it had just been set ablaze.
As I entered i saw my mask staring at me. Its dark tinted lenses tantalizing. Under that mask I could cry and no one would be able to tell. No one will know how I feel. They will know that I’m trying to help or so I hope. I stared through the window now seeing the last of my wife blowing away. A small rat sitting in my window sill stared at the fire. My blood boiled as i looked at the rat. It stood there knowing it was the cause for all this pain, all this misery. My amputation knife stood stuck into my wooden desk.
A blood streak went down my window sill and slowly washed away with the rain. A lantern in hand, a mask on my face I headed off. Away from the land I once called my home. By the name of the old Gods and the new, I will find a cure if it takes my dying breath to do so.
