About

"Education does not transform the world.
Education changes people.
People change the world."
- Paulo Freire
WELCOME!
My name is Saira Siddiqui and I am the creator of the blog, Confessions of a Muslim Mom. This is a space where I write about issues I feel passionately about. I am the child of Pakistani and Indian immigrants to the US and identify with being Muslim, American, female, Asian, Desi, and many intersecting identities.

I am a former private and public school teacher turned stay at home mom of three, never been schooled children. Raised in the Midwest, I lived in Texas for most of my adult Life. In 2018 my husband and I decided to move our family to Colombia in the hopes that the experience would give us greater perspective and more appreciation for cultural diversity.

After seeing the importance of self direction and passion driven education with my children, I returned to the University of Houston in 2015 to pursue a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Social Education.

An avid reader and blogger since 2010, I've been featured on NPR Parents, Parents Magazine, Yahoo Parents, and Forbes.com. I use my writing to continue to challenge group think, echo chambers, and conscious/unconscious bias. But mostly, I use my platform as a space to share my story.

Indeed, hearts and minds are shaped, not by facts, but by stories.

You can find me on Facebook and Instagram @confessionsofamuslimmom.

Courses
I am currently in the process of developing several online courses, two of which are:
1) REBOOT—a personal development course designed to get participants 'unstuck' in life and create a mechanism for change
2) Islamophobia and education.

Future classes/course content may include:
1) Appreciation versus Appropriation—How to Engage With Different Cultures
2) Growing Global Citizens at Home—A Toolkit for Anti-bias Education at Home
3) Media Bias and It’s Impact
4) Get Out of My Head! Ridding Yourself of a Post Colonial Mindset
5) Unschooling—Everything you need to get started and
6) Unschooling your school going child.

Would you like to support my work?

Some Patreon content creators use this platform to share content with their supporters. I do not. The work that you support is shared on my platforms for free. Your support allows me to continue to teach online, in a "commercial free" setting. It also allows me to offer courses and workshops free of charge. It's important to me to spread the ideas of raising socially conscious and critically thinking children to everyone.

Patreon makes it easy for writers and content creators like myself to get the support of those who might find some benefit in what I do. There are different levels of support, each with its own benefits. ALL levels bring benefit to our community—by funding my work and allowing me to curate beneficial content that is accessible to all.
