Hey there, everybody. Welcome to the new Patreon page for The Indie Handbook. Many of you may already know me, but for those who don't, let me give you a brief idea of what we do. In its most basic form, The Indie Handbook is a music blog. In the last nine years, we've covered unsigned and emerging artists from all over the world. In that time, I've also contributed artist profiles to The Guardian and made occasional appearances on Amazing Radio and BBC Radio 1 Wales. We even released a record a few years ago.

I'm proud of what we've done so far, but even so, in that time, I've dreamed of doing many other things through The Indie Handbook (e.g. more records, a podcast, an actual book, etc.). Whether due to time constraints or financial limitations or what have you, those things have not come to fruition. Like most people, I just assumed I would get around to it eventually.

Then, last summer, after several months of frequent headaches and bouts of dizziness, my doctor recommended an MRI. What they found -- a mass near my eye -- came as a surprise to all of us. Let me reassure you lest you worry, all the doctors (13 so far) agree that it is a benign tumor called a meningioma -- a life changing but not life-threatening diagnosis. Yes, it will have to come out someday, but not in the near future. But still, it will come as no surprise that the news led me to reevaluate many aspects of my life, not the least of which was my role as a journalist and as an advocate for the arts. Which is why I have decided that it is time to stop dreaming and start acting on some of those crazy ideas I've entertained over the years. I hope you'll join me and take a peak behind the scenes as I try to make them happen.

Thanks a ton.

I receive more new music than I have time to review. Here, you'll get a weekly list of everything I've received. Maybe something will catch your eye.
Unabridged
$3 or more per month
Did you ever wonder what my posts look like before they wind up online? This is your chance, once a month, to see the unedited version of one of my posts, forced metaphors and all.
Musical Missives
$5 or more per month
While not everything gets a full review, I do listen to all of it. At this level, you'll get a brief review of everything, whether I liked it or not.
Bargain Bin Buying Guide
$7 or more per month
Everyone knows I love the bargain bins. At this level, you'll get an additional post each month about an often overlooked but still great record that can usually be had for a dollar or two.
A Window Into My Record Collection
$10 or more per month
A monthly video post highlighting one of my favorites from my personal record collection. I've got some weird and wonderful stuff. Maybe someday I'll tell you about that Osmonds cereal box 7" I found.
Monthly Q&A
$15 or more per month
Let's all hang out! We can talk about music if you want, but I know about other stuff, too, like soccer and old movies.
The Indie Handbook Limited
$25 or more per month only 250 left
Not only am I a writer, I am also a published photographer. I've shot bands (and lots of other things) all over the world. At this level, you'll receive a limited edition print (in the form of a custom postcard) each month. Signed and numbered. Each print will only be run once, and only enough to cover the subscriptions for that month. If only 5 are signed up, only 5 will be printed.
Crate Diggin'
$30 or more per month
Are you coming to Nashville? Why not come record shopping with me? We'll meet up and dig for a while.
Patron Saint
$1,000 or more per month
Wow, that's a lot of money. Let's talk it over (just keep it within the limits of the law and Patreon). A larger print from my photography library, maybe. Or a hand bound book featuring some of my best work and some new unpublished stuff. Or maybe you have a better idea.
Goals
$3 of $50 per month
About $50 a month would cover the cost of domain names and move the website to a more flexible paid host and off of the free server where it is currently parked.
