Various Reviews is an independent review outlet based in Gautier Mississippi, run by Alex Shannon. I publish a new review every Sunday, and my friend Nathan Green occasionally writes a review for the site as well. I cover whatever crosses my path, games, movies, the occasional book and TV show, sometimes a comic-book or two.
Nathan reviews games rather exclusively right now.
I also have a YouTube channel where I upload Let's Plays, a weekly Dungeons and Dragons session, and I'm attempting to revive my old podcast as well. I also have a series where I riff on episodes of the latest season of Power Rangers, Unofficial Commentary. Every now and again I do that kind of video on a movie.
We're on Patreon because we don't really have the funds to review many games or films that we can't get review copies of or borrow from public libraries.
Ethics and objectivity are a priority for us. Fact-checking is very important to me as an editor, and as a writer. While it's probably impossible to be entirely objective, to not let your own opinions influence your work, that doesn't mean we shouldn't at least try.
While I've only been at this since 2011, I've been analyzing movies, television, video-games, comics, and books all my life. I'm a very detail-oriented kind of guy, and I've always liked to talk about the things I experience, so writing about them gives me a good outlet for some of my more obsessive tendencies.
Every October I like to delve into the history of a horror franchise, and the component works of the franchise. I call it "The Thirty-One Days of Horror" and it will be going into its third year this October. This year I am continuing my coverage of the Resident Evil franchise, delving into the novels, tie-in fluff and comics as part of The Thirty-One Days of Evil.
This year I'm also introducing a new, possibly yearly feature where I delve into the history of another of my favorite franchises. Kazuki Takahashi's decades-spanning brain-child that spawned the worlds most popular card-game, Yu-Gi-Oh!

Pick a game for Alex to Let's Play!
Once a month one of our patrons can pick a game for Alex to Let's Play (That he hasn't already done) on the YouTube channel.
This doesn't guarantee you a review of that game, Alex might decide to review it if he wants, but he doesn't make any promises!
Stipulations are as follows:
Must be for a system I own and can record from. (NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis/Mega Drive, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Xbox, Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, PlayStation 3)
Must be in a language I understand (So far just English, but I'm working on Japanese)
Must not be pornographic in nature, or if it is pornographic, must have an option to turn it off, that way I can play it on Youtube without significant editing, and without skirting YouTube's content policies.
Must be easy for me to get ahold of, or something I've already got.
Must not be a digital-exclusive game.
Nothing from any of the following franchises: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Metal Gear, Sonic The Hedgehog, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball, Power Rangers, The Legend of Zelda, or Final Fantasy. I have plans revolving around coverage of all of these franchises laid out for the future. I'm letting you know now so you don't waste any of your time suggesting any of these.
I also would prefer to not play any horror games, as I like to save those for my horror special during the month of October.
Picking something for me to play does not allow you to dictate what I say about it.
I cannot stress this enough. No matter how much you pay me, opinions are not for sale. I don't care if I'm a nobody from nowhere or the most famous person in the world, this will never change.

Stipulations might change in the future, but that's up to Alex. Things that will not change however, are the porn, hentai and ethics stipulations.

Pick something (That he hasn't already covered) for Alex to write a review on!
Be it a movie, a video-game, a book, a comic, a cartoon, or a TV show, he'll review it, at least within reason. We reserve the right to refuse to review something, but if you pick this reward, you can keep suggesting until you hit on something.
Stipulations:
Must not be digital-exclusive.
If it is a game, it must be for a system I own. (NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis/Mega Drive, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Xbox, Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PSP, PlayStation 3, 3DS)
Must either be in a language I understand (English, working on Japanese) or have English subtitles.
Must be easy for me to get ahold of, or something I've already got.
No pornography or Hentai (If you want me to cover an eroge it must have the option to turn off nudity)
I also would prefer to not cover any major horror franchises, as I like to cover horror franchises during the month of October.
I can try to write a review of music, or an album, but I find it somewhat difficult to write about, so don't be surprised if I ask you to choose something else.
Picking something for me to review does not allow you to dictate what I say about it or what kind of score I give it.
I cannot stress this enough. No matter how much you pay me, scores are not for sale, opinions are not for sale. I don't care if I'm a nobody from nowhere or the most famous person in the world, this will never change.

Stipulations might change in the future, but that's up to Alex. Things that will not change however, are the porn, hentai and ethics stipulations.
Goals
$0 of $20 per review
If we can get at least twenty dollars per month, then I will be able to review a new movie every month.

Pays for two tickets and gas to the nearest theater.
