About The W T Stead Resource Site
William Thomas Stead was one of the most controversial figures of his age. Journalist, newspaper editor, pacifist and spiritualist, he was one of the most important contributors to the evolution of today's popular journalism and his death on the ill-fated Titanic continues to generate fascination and debate.
The W.T. Stead Resource Site features a wealth of textual material, including The Maiden Tribute of Modern Babylon, which, in the summer of 1885, shook the Victorian world; and transcripts from Stead's trial, prosecution and imprisonment over the abduction of Eliza Armstrong. It also features hundreds of other texts, images and facsimiles covering almost every aspect of Stead's life and career.
I founded the W.T Stead Resource Site in 2001 to assist me in my own research, and never dreamed it would grow into the largest online resource on Stead's life and career. Today the site is used by students, scholars and institutions around the world. It has significantly contributed to the Study of W.T. Stead and has featured in books, articles, radio broadcasts and even TV documentaries.
Above all, the W.T. Stead Resource is free to use. There are no membership fees or download costs.
Unfortunately, running any website, particularly one that's based on continued research, is not without expense. Website hosting, maintenance, upgrades and research costs are just some of the overheads that the W.T. Stead Resource generates each year.
That's why I am asking you to make a small pledge to help cover these costs so I can keep the W.T. Stead Resource Site free for future researchers.
Any amount is gratefully received.
W.T. Stead's journalism was powerful as it was sensational and his many social and political campaigns had far reaching effects that remain with us today.
Yet, despite this, and despite at the time being the most famous passenger to perish on the Titanic, mainstream history barely remembers him.
When I reach $1000 per month, I will be able to invest more time in the maintenance of the W.T. Stead Resource.
This will allow me to undertake more research, write more articles and make videos and/or podcasts, so as to further the study of W.T. Stead and return him to his rightful place in history.
