Zakk Flash is creating new worlds

Hey, y’all! My name is Zakk Flash and I’m here because I need more time.

I’m a ne'er-do-well writer, lapsed poet, foster dad with 8 kids, and Crohn’s disease haver-er. For about 12 years, I've been working hard to build a better world: writing, teaching, speaking, and mentoring, as a nonprofit professional and beyond.

Here's the problem: before I was diagnosed with Crohn’s, I had a regular column in The Gayly, did freelance political and current events writing, with bylines in Adbusters, the Occupied Wall Street Journal, Dissident Voice, and others.

Unfortunately, the writing career has fallen by the wayside. I need my night job to support my family (and access insurance for my very expensive autoimmune medications)... but I'm getting tired. Waking up at 1am for work doesn't leave a lot of energy to chase kids, much less to write, though I do anyway because that's what good parenting is all about.

Patreon could make my work possible.

Here are the things I'd like to accomplish in the forseeable future, a checklist that your support can make happen:

Write a lot more short stories, and possibly put together a short story collection (or two!);
Write more poetry, including the work I’ve had gestating around my foster and adopted kids;
Get started on my novel project;
Put together a poetry/spoken word podcast;
Sleep regularly. Eat better. Go hiking and swimming with my kids more often. Breathe. All of these things help me write.

If my writing and online work have been meaningful to you, I invite you to support my efforts to reach more people. You help support my endeavors by chipping in a buck or more on a recurring basis. Your support will help me bring bigger and better (and more) projects into the world.

If you've read this far, thanks so much. I
hope you'll consider becoming a supporter. I look forward to being able to make the my work even better with the support of people like you.

Thank you for being a part of what I do.
