Hi, I'm Adam Holwerda. I've been writing stories, drawing comics and making videos for as long as I can remember doing those things. In 2009, I self-published a book of short stories and poems that you can read for free at my website. In 2017, I self-published another book. I have a novel, a chapbook and visual narrative work on the way.

I've always been more interested in publishing as an artist than publishing traditionally, because I think the range of what you can write about and how is more open in independent markets. I keep the rights to all my publishing, and I can publish however I want - short story websites are something I want to experiment with, for example. Or creating books in virtual and augmented reality.

Why tell you any of that? Well, this Patreon page is where you can support me while I write things, draw things, and record things.

And now, I imagine some questions nobody has asked me:

What kind of comics do you make?

I had a small webcomic called Empty Headbox about ten years ago that I'm looking to reboot in a new, better way. Those comics can be seen at http://emptyheadbox.com.

What kind of videos do you make?

Plenty of different kinds. Right now you can see some of my videos on YoutubeVimeo and a public access internet television endeavor I've been creating called Whether.TV

What kind of stories do you write normally?

The stories I write are kind of odd, but people seem to enjoy them. I'd describe the totality as a blend of magical realism, sci-fi, fantasy, and other stories that could be considered more or less literary fiction. Characters with goals and struggles who are men, women, animals, aliens, microbes, animals.

What have you written for me lately?

I released An Evening of Blue and Other Grim Yarns, a book of weird and twisted horror stories during Summer 2017. It's available from Lulu (print) and Amazon (kindle), and Patrons will have access to continued updates regarding the stories in that book and on the books I'm working on in general, as well as receive short stories as as Patron-only posts.

Do you have a sense of what stories or books you'll be producing next?

The next big project I've got in the works is The Outlier's Dream, which is a multidimensional science fiction thriller about a guy who's living the wrong life. He wakes up one morning after having had and chased a dream, but he's the only one of him across the dimensions living that life. This is a problem, he soon learns, and finds himself on a journey into some other dimensions. There are other characters, of course, and the whole universe is a lot bigger than that, but basically the book is about the idea of whether you can be living the wrong life at all, or if what you do is what you were meant to do even if you were the only one to do it. The Outlier's Dream I'm probably 85% done with it, there are about 550 pages at the moment, and I started writing that book in the Summer of 2016.

Then there's Some Strands of Thread, Some Knotted Coils, which is a sort of sequel to my first chapbook, Clayton's Secret Notebook, which I'm currently thinking about as a mixture of prose and poetry and some more experimental forms -- in chapbooks I like to stretch the definitions of the things included, so that should be fun. The book will end up being around 200 pages.

I want to know how feasible working on multiple projects at once is. If it's feasible I plan to have a wide variety of things going out the door and appearing here and in the wider world. Longer short stories, novellas, groupings of stories that take place in the same universe, graphic novels, poetry chapbooks, video readings, performances, comic strips, puppet shows etc.

The production and instantiation of all these types of things will be funded by you. Thank you!
