hi friends,

my name's neil and i produce music as AIR APPARENT!

a little about me:
i'm an indian-american producer based out of san francisco. i currently work full-time at a tech company, but spend most of my free time creating music with amazing people. i also like to write in lower-case, contrary to what the artist name might suggest.

before san francisco, i spent my whole life in a city called atlanta, georgia. i would say i probably started "doing music stuff" in elementary school between piano lessons, small vocal performances at church, a capella groups and orchestra. after early high school, i paused on music until college where i did a radio show with a friend...and once i moved out to san francisco i rediscovered music.

it started as an itch and now it's something i feel like i have to do everyday to express myself!

why patreon?
i love music, but it's an expensive thing to pursue. for a high quality product, it takes more than just time - studio equipment, mixing engineering, mastering, and commissioning artwork all add up quite a bit. not to mention all of the work that goes in after a release to promote the content and pitch to blogs. with your support, i'd love to continue making more music to share with the world and offer you glimpses into my creative process, as well as the chance to interact with me closely or influence my creative direction!

what kind of stuff i'm into:
since i started producing, my ear has changed quite a bit in terms of how i listen to music. but i still listen to a mix of many genres - lots of hip-hop (atlanta origins probably), indie rock (college radio), electronic (pervasive in every part of the music industry now), R&B/jazz (more recently, as well as how it intersects with the other genres mentioned). i also love minor scales, and arranging songs that sound *hopeful* while entirely using chords from minor scales (which are typically associated with sad-sounding music).

this playlist i made late last year contains a pretty big list of my influences and captures a snapshot of what i like to listen to.

why do you make music?
i think first and foremost it's a way for me to express myself. but it’s not just that – there's something so magical about knowing someone may have picked my music to soundtrack a part of their day. and given that possibility, i want to make music that helps people feel something - whether that means independently stirring their emotions, complementing how they might be feeling on a certain day, or just something that people can enjoy while brewing a cup of coffee, going to work, relaxing, or going through something difficult.
