Alex Shantz, a philosopher from Napa Valley California, is an essayist and podcaster.

Shantz, for nearly two decades, has published his polemics and philosophical commentaries in the Napa Valley Register. An ardent anarchist/communist and anti-capitalist, Shantz uses his philosophical lens to challenge exploitive and oppressive power structures, while imagining political alternatives. He is influenced by Diogenes, Karl Marx, Nietzsche, and Max Stirner.

In addition to essays, Shantz also produces a podcast called Napa Valley Insurrection.

Napa Valley Insurrection provides in-depth yet organic conversations with Napa Valley revolutionaries, rabble rousers, movers, and shakers. It's a place to hear radical commentary and receive information on local political issues and happenings, throughout the Napa Valley, and beyond.

Shantz graduated high school via independent studies from Napa Valley Alternative and attended Napa Valley College. While studying, Shantz became passionate about philosophy, after contracting a Cartesian contagion, and majored in it. He then transferred to Sacramento State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a concentration in Ethics, Law, and Politics. In Spring 2018, Shantz returns to Napa Valley College, the institution that inspired his life trajectory, to earn an Associate's Degree in Humanities and Philosophy.

While at Napa Valley College, Shantz served as senator of social science, vice president, president, and student trustee on the Associated Students of Napa Valley College. Concurrent with attending Sacramento State, Shantz served on the St. Helena School Board. Shantz was vice chair of the Napa County Gang and Youth Violence Commission. He also served as co-chair for the Green Party of California. He's currently acting chair for the Napa County Green Party.

Shantz plans to earn a PhD in Continental Philosophy via Staffordshire Univeristy. Upon completion, Shantz's subsequent academic goal is to earn a PhD in Philosophy, Art, and Social Thought via European Graduate School. He dreams, to one day, return to Napa Valley College, as a philosophy professor. Otherwise, he aspires to read books, drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, and tend to his cat and lover until he dies.
Goals
$9 of $16 per month
My overhead is $16/month for SoundCloud space. Once I find enough patrons to reach $16/month, my podcast will be self-sustaining. Anything extra will go towards marijuana and cigarettes. They are essential to the philosophical process.
