I'm a writer. I've always BEEN a writer, and like many artists, I've hit roadblocks in the form of mental illness, major life changes, and that period after college where you have a degree and have no idea what to do with it.

I studied Electronic Media and Film with a focus in screenwriting at Northern Arizona University because I love telling stories. Whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said I wanted to be a writer. I grew up writing stories, song lyrics, and reflective pieces. I have two pieces published on To Write Love On Her Arms' official blog: "Dear Anxiety." and "The Rainy Months."

In 2012, for National Novel Writing Month, I completed my first novel titled "In Transit." I still consider it my greatest accomplishment, but even I knew something was missing. Many things were missing, in fact, as I tried to edit and rewrite my story handfuls of time over the years. I tried focusing on mental health advocacy--as an individual who struggles with OCD and depression, I felt it was my responsibility. However, the more I tried to write these characters I created, the more I felt distanced and disconnected, but I still retained faith in the story I had to tell.

I recently moved to Atlanta where a full time job turned into part time and I am struggling to support myself. If I don't find another method of income (and I am constantly searching), I will not be able to afford living expenses on top of bills, rent, and medication.

Now, I see things clearer. Now, there are pieces of me I've found that I'm able to fuse into these characters to create better representation of myself and the world around me. The goal is to tell a story of recovery of a former mental health activist who fights her own demons. The goal is to tell a story of a girl struggling to come to terms with her sexuality and spirituality after growing up in an incredibly religious household. The goal is to follow a man whose only concept of family is in the daughter he shares with his best friend, whom he supports financially through any means necessary. The goal is to tell the story of a dog whose lost status brings these characters together to find it, all the while touching the lives of everyone it comes across.
