Who We Are

Welcome to 'All Heels on Deck," a baseball writing platform for women, POC and LGBTQ writers. We've recently added women's sports coverage as well.

AHOD was borne out of frustration over lack of opportunities for non white men in baseball media, and a desire to showcase a variety of voices an independent platform. Male sports editors aren't doing much to change the landscape (see annual sports media diversity hiring reports), so we have to create our own way in.

Sexual harassment in sports media is common. But beyond that, the business can be isolating for women, communities of color & LGBTQ people, both as fans and writer/reporters. There's a lack of alternate voices across the board. Baseball writing and reporting was, and is, mostly by men. White men, usually straight. But when you go on social media or talk to writers at smaller independent sites, the diversity of voices is there.

There are tons of women and LGBTQ baseball fans, bloggers, and creators of baseball content.

Women, LGBTQ and non white women, and people of color overall, are not represented the way they should and could be. There's no excuse for that. It's simply too easy to tow the line.

Why AHOD Is Necessary

We have to create the space that we're longing for. We have to open the doors by not giving up. We can shift the voice in baseball, and throughout sports media, by prioritizing underrepresented voices.

That's the entire focus of All Heels on Deck.

By contributing here, you join an exclusive community helping to open those doors, and expand the voice of baseball writing and reporting.

We're changing the game, and you're part of it.

Thank you!

Goals

We're adding some goals teammates! Seems logical, since we're a sports site, that we have a couple of number goals. Now that we're almost to the halfway mark of AHOD's existence, we're reassessing our focus & approach. We're continuing to build our community, while integrating ourselves more fully into the larger baseball community. So we're going to start with a community-building goal. We want to grow to 100 pledged patrons. No timeframe, but let's begin spreading the word!
