The Dying Femme Fatale

The Femme Fatale is lying on sheets of white satin
In a pool of her exquisite blood.
Some of her admirers are collecting the precious liquid
In vintage crystal flasks
Glimmering in the light left in the world,
Trying to preserve at least this one colour,
While all others are fading away –
With no passion and laughter allowed,
Everything is turning grey.
Others are covering themselves in it,
Yet others are consuming it greedily.

The Femme Fatale is dying,
But she’s still breathing,
And it’s not too late to save her from a cruel demise –
All it takes is acknowledging her supreme role
In the history of mankind.

She was the first person to ever walk upright –
Even more than that, she was the first ever
Ape worthy of being called a person.
The first men stood up straight reaching for her,
And they perfected their tools and tamed fire
In an attempt to impress her.
But then, ironically,
Her hypnotic gaze made men fall back on the ground
To her feet,
And ever since then, she’s been
Resurrecting their animal instincts.

The moment she first saw
Her glorious reflection in a lake,
She understood her power –
That moment sealed humanity’s fate,
And since then she’s been leading the way.
Billions of men have died for her;
She’s started wars and revolutions,
She’s inspired great inventions,
And the most brilliant pieces of art,
Making the men around her always work hard,
Trying to capture her attention,
Hoping to eventually capture her.
And if that didn’t work,
They would murder each other
To reduce the competition.

But her strength is complex;
Not as straightforward as men’s,
And so it’s difficult to understand
Without any first-hand experience
Of being on its receiving or giving end.

And she’s now being tortured by girls
Who don’t understand her power,
Thinking it makes them weaker,
Instead of searching for it
Within themselves.
They’re screaming:
‘Men and women are identical!’
And as the hungry vulture of feminism
Circles in the sky above her,
The men who fear and worship her are fighting
The angry mob of self-proclaimed freedom warriors,
While trying to protect her,
But less and less people believe that her life matters.
In a soft, lukewarm, humourless world,
Without any facts and truth to be guided by,
A loud, faceless crowd can’t wait to be fed
The Femme Fatale’s beautiful heart
And priceless, sweet flesh
By the journalists of the New York Times
And the Guardian.

"The Dying Femme Fatale" is also the title of my first poetry collection, which is published in July 2018. The subtitle is "A Poetic Critique of Contemporary Feminism and Political Correctness".

My goal is to challenge the status quo of the art world, which, it seems, may have been infected with the postmodernist tendency of identity politics beyond cure. There are very few creative people around these days who don't subscribe to the philosophy and ideology that comes with this school of thought - there may be more of us than I think, but we're struggling to have out voices heard. Unfortunately, the contemporary art world's idea of diversity is extremely superficial, and it doesn't include intellectual diversity. This assault and harassment of the arts warrants the use of the hashtag #ArtToo.

Once "The Dying Femme Fatale" is published, I'm planning to put on a series of related events in London, and, hopefully, elsewhere. The first one of these will take place in August 2018, featuring spoken word performances by me and live music by some great bands. It will be a celebration of femininity, as it had been known since ancient times until third-wave feminists have begun trying to destroy it. As one notable example, in early 2018, a magnificent JW Waterhouse was removed from display at the Manchester Art Gallery because its depiction of the age-old femme fatale archetype did not align well with the spirit of the #MeToo movement.

I aim to keep my work free of any ideologies, although the classical liberal emphasis on individuality and freedom appeals to me greatly. I take most of my inspiration from philosophy, psychology and the visual arts. Some of my influences are Friedrich Nietzsche, Carl Jung, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Charles Baudelaire, Comte de Lautreamont and Edvard Munch.

With your support, I hope to spread my message by creating more physical and online publications, videos, podcasts and events. I endeavour to provide my patrons with early access to all of my work, as well as exclusive content in the form of unpublished poems, short fiction and articles.
