Hello! Thanks so much for visiting this page!

I am a director, theatre maker, and instigator. I tell stories to change the world.
I believe theatre can do better than simply reflecting our world back to us; it can show us worlds that could be. It's not a mirror, it's a lens.

These are the projects I'm working on right now:

  • Home Is Where... is a theatre piece made of real stories collected from interviews with Third Culture Kids, people who grew up in a different culture than their parents and created their own unique identities out of many influences. It’s verbatim, but not as you know it; global stories, but not as you know them. Using scripted dialogue alongside verbatim interviews, movement, music, and multi-media, Home is Where… explores the complexity, absurdity, and joy of our multicultural lives. Having created a short performance for "scratch nights" at Camden People's Theatre and The Cockpit in early 2016, our 12-strong team of artists will develop Home is Where... into a full-length piece in September 2016 at RichMix, London. (more here)
  • The Helen Project is a postmodern feminist reimagining of The Iliad, which tells the story from the perspective of Helen of Troy for a change. Images of Helen from Homer and Marlowe, from modern poetry, from the golden age of Hollywood, and even ripped from the headlines of our contemporary tabloids, turn in a kaleidoscope of original and found text. We glimpse fleeting portraits of this mythic woman as each performance twists the mirrors to reflect a new Helen. Written in fragments with brilliant collaborator Megan Cohen, the piece has been performed in ever-changing permutations, in San Francisco and London. I am currently redeveloping it for a solo performance and a 7-actor installation with some exciting new design collaborators. (more here)
  • Brains & Space (working title) is my next big project, at the very beginning of its development. Inspired by the mysteries of the cosmos and the mysteries of our own minds, we're looking at how scientific knowledge has displaced humanity from our previous understanding of ourselves. It's about stars, planets, aliens, neurons, consciousness, and ego. We've known for a while now that we're not the centre of the solar system - and now neuroscience is starting to discover that "we" might not even be at the centre of our "selves". Whatever those words might mean... This piece is in its early research phase, with some exciting new collaborators.
  • Amy Clare Tasker Performance Lab Ltd. is about to exist! I'm starting a company to facilitate these three projects, plus whatever else I might be working on next... I'm right at the beginning of this journey, and documenting what I learn on my blog - starting with this post about why I'm starting a company.

My work is ambitious and collaborative and takes time to come to fruition. There are so many things to put into place before we can even start the rehearsal process: people, space, money, and of course the idea itself. The Helen Project has been in development 2010, and I've been conducting interviews for Home Is Where... since 2014.

But the work could take less time if I wasn't also doing other jobs for money. That's where you can help. If I could focus only on these projects, they'd get to the stage much more quickly. And maybe I'd be able to get started on some of my other ideas, too...

What does it mean to support me "per epiphany?" Every time I figure something out about how to make my work better, I'll write a blog post, or make a video explaining what I've discovered. If you're worried I will be having too many epiphanies, you can set a monthly cap so you don't blow your budget. I'll only post the important ones, probably 1-5 per month.

Thanks so much for your support!

It might be that I've solved a question in rehearsal about how to get an idea across, or it might be a stroke of genius to do with setting up a performing arts company. I don't know yet - that's why it will be an epiphany when I figure it out.
