About Ashanti Marshall

Hello, possible patron!

My name is Ashanti Marshall and I’m a literary cultural worker living in Chicago, IL. My preferred pronouns are she/they. This Patreon page serves as a medium to collect sustainable income through the solidarity of my community and fans/supporters of A Note to Zami.

A Note to Zami was born out of my practice of annotating literature and wanting to share what and how I was learning about myself from Barbara Smith, Cheryl Clarke, Alexis De Veaux, Alexis Pauline Gumbs. These women sharing themselves gave me the courage to find my voice on paper and share it with the world. I compile new understandings into very specific yet organic pieces of writing that stem from a receptive stream of conscious.

As a cultural worker, my greatest source of information (besides books) are people. Funds raised would cover professional development for myself such as attending conferences, transportation, food and lodging. My goal to enrich and enliven the reach of anotetozami.com is to begin producing an intimate interview series with our book authors, writers and literary tastemakers.

Similar to a "sneak peek", this reward allows patrons to view footage of myself at work and access to a handwritten haiku on ornate stationary that corresponds to the work (emotional, spiritual, physical) done on a monthly basis.

Similar to a producer's credit, this reward comes with being recognized as a member of the A Note to Zami production team, receiving special acknowledgment in videos, a monthly private video discussing my artistic projects and processes, footage of myself at work, and access to a handwritten haiku and letter on a monthly basis.
