Art Isn't Easy is creating groundbreaking art

Hi, Pax and Justin here—not to be confused with our strange and snooty alter egos from Art Isn't Easy. Thanks for watching our video! We're excited to tell you more about our campaign.

HOW IT STARTED
For three years, we’ve improvised in front of a camera—discussing the trials and triumphs of being groundbreaking artists as the ridiculous hosts of a parody video series called Art Isn't Easy. (Their close friend Steve [Sondheim] was a major inspiration, and the title was "lovingly borrowed" from one of his masterpieces.) Our alter egos often feel that their artistic brilliance goes unnoticed, but never allow it to stop them from producing two-person musical theatre pieces, creating misguided devised pieces, or offering their unsolicited artistic opinions whenever and wherever they can. We’ve been sharing these videos with our friends on Facebook, a community that has supported us with feedback and inspired us to keep creating. Thank you!

WHAT'S NEXT?
We really love making and sharing these videos. We have lots of fun working together, and It's wonderful to know that we're bringing some joy and laughter to our friends near and far. Because we love doing this, we're thinking about how to make this project sustainable long-term.

As freelance musicians and theatre artists in Philadelphia, we spend our time working lots of different gigs for our income. We haven’t had as much time as we would like to dedicate to Art Isn’t Easy, but would love for it to be a bigger part of our freelance lives. To that end, friends have commented and messaged us with encouragement:

We're interested in making Art Isn't Easy a monthly video series—which means more provocative artmaking, more daring musical theatre interpretation, more silly outtakes, and more laughs. With your help, we can make that dream a sustainable reality.

WHY PATREON?
We're excited by the idea of making Art Isn't Easy something our community can subscribe to and support—that's why we're here on Patreon. Patreon is a platform where supporters of artists can sustain the work at an amount of their choosing.

REWARDS
Our videos will continue to be free—that won't change. For folks who would like to become patrons (sustaining our work by contributing a few dollars a month), we’re excited to offer some additional fun rewards:
  • $2/month - credit in our videos and production stills/process photos of Art Isn't Easy's groundbreaking art every month
  • $5/month - credit in our videos, production stills/process photos and a mini-masterclass video of a song, text or technique from Art Isn't Easy's artistic toolbox every month
  • $10/month - monthly credit in our videos, production stills/process photos, mini-masterclass video, and surprise Art Isn't Easy merchandise delivered to your doorstep every 6 months

GOALS

If we reach $25 of support per month, we'll be able to make Art Isn't Easy a monthly series.

If we reach $100 of support per month, we'll be able to purchase better lighting equipment—so you can see Art Isn't Easy's visceral masterpieces all the better!

If we reach $250 of support per month, we'll be able to create even more groundbreaking art—more live videos, perhaps a theatre critic series where we go to Philadelphia productions and give our expert opinions, perhaps our own original musical content. The sky's the limit!

QUESTIONS

Can I give an amount other than $2, $5 or $10?
Why, yes! You can designate any amount you desire in the checkout process. Simply select your reward and enter your desired amount.

Can I stop donating in the future?
Yes! You can cancel your donations at any time.

How does the payment process work?
When you become a patron using your credit card or Paypal account, you will automatically be signed up for monthly payments of whatever amount you select. Thank you!

Can someone answer my other questions?

We'd be happy to. Please email [email protected] with any other questions you may have!
