Who is this guy?

My name is Austin Shurtliff and I am a comic creator and freelance illustrator. Ever since I was young I have had multiple stories and worlds developing in my head, but now I want to share them with the world, and I want to take you along for the ride. My Patreon is the place to be if you want a front row seat as I go through the creation process on my new projects. I have always loved getting to see the behind-the-scenes content of films, and that is what you will get here on Patreon, as well as a chance to talk with me and other serious fans of my work. With your support you can help me have enough time to really focus in on developing these stories into the best possible products that they can be. Below is some information on my current projects that you will be supporting.

Current Projects

After Humanity: Through the Looking Glass

The Backstory
When I was young I started imagining a world where humans had become almost extinct and robotic and biologically advanced humans waged war for power and control. This story has evolved over the years in After Humanity, a series of stories about characters trying to free humanity from the technological dystopian world that holds them bound. The first book, Through the Looking Glass, follows Liam and Avis who have been forced to leave the physical realm to live in the blissful virtual reality known as the Garden.
The Plan
For the month of August I will be working on this project quite a bit, getting the first 60 or so pages completed. After August I will slow down to more like 6-8 pages a week. Besides seeing process images of the thumbnails, pencils, and inks you will also get to participate in a weekly discussion each time I post a new episode. I will also do a monthly Q&A were I will answer each of the questions, either as a comment, or as part of a Youtube video I make. Either way, you get to ask me any question you have about the story, my process, or my favorite pastime (it changes regularly). Whatever you are wondering about, you get to discus it with me and other patrons and ask me questions directly throughout the creation of my comic.

Living the Creative Life Comic Essays

The Backstory
When I was in middle school I was blown away when I found "Understanding Comics" by Scott McCloud at the public library. I checked it out so many times they finally let me just keep the old damaged copy that they had. This book helped inspire my love of comics and my belief that comics are a powerful method for teaching new concepts and ideas. With my CL comic essays I want to share knowledge I have gained from my own experiences, other creators, and research on how to be more creative, overcome the barriers to creating, and finally finishing something that you can share with the world.

The Plan
I will be completing a chapter of the CL comic each month (with the first one being completed in Aug 2018) and you will not only get to see some behind the scenes images of the thumbnails, sketches, and inks, but you will also get to access the whole chapter when it is complete, before I share it with the rest of the world. Also, if there is enough of an interest I want to print out small collections of chapters to send out exclusively to Patrons (more on that in a few months).

So, are you interested?

If any of this stuff sounds good to you, please consider becoming a Patron. To begin with I will only offer a $1 a month level, but as my projects continue and more people join I will add other possible levels that will include monthly hangouts, printed copies of parts of my books, and more!

Thanks for your interest in my projects!

Thank you for your support!

You will get access to special behind-the-scenes images of my comic creating process, the chance to read the Creative Life Comic chapters before I  post it online, as well as a chance to ask questions and participate in a weekly discussion and a monthly Q&A (once we hit our goal of 10 patrons).

Goals
$0 of $25 per month
Once we reach this goal I will send out a wallpaper, using one of the large spreads in the After Humanity comic, for your mobile device or desktop background, that all Patrons can download for free.
