Hallo! Wie geht es? Es geht mir gut! Bacil Donovan Warren here. I'm a writer (in various genres!), a truly self-taught programmer (as you can tell if you have downloaded any of my apps), and a general nerd.

I like creating things. I like telling stories. In telling stories, I endeavor to inspire readers to think more deeply, appreciate more readily, understand more easily, and connect more viscerally. But mostly … the stories I tell, I want them to feel real, to give a reader a sense of immersion while reading them that will stick with them when they are done.

Some of the things I have written are in bookstores (online, at least). I wrote and published a small chap book of some poetry a few years ago (Hooray for Pain!), and I wrote and published With It or in It: Desert Shield and Desert Storm from the Loader's Hatch in 2016, on the 25th anniversary of the start of Operation Desert Sabre. It covers my experience as a tank crewman—and really, the experiences of many US Army tankers—with the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, starting from 02 August 1990 and ending on 18 March 1991, when we landed back in El Paso after Operation Desert Sabre had ended. I also am finishing up a Sci-Fi novel, which should hopefully be ready for me to publish by the end of September.

I am working on a fantasy novel series, as well as a military fiction novel (from the perspective of a tanker, of course :-D ), and I continue writing poetry.

Beyond writing, though, I also like teaching, and helping other people learn things. One of the things I'm doing for myself, for example, is I'm going through the process of recording the audiobook versions of a couple of my written works, at home. This is a lot less expensive than recording in a studio, but is also challenging in other ways. As part of that process, I am documenting the holes I fall in, and when I get through the process I will be also post videos & how-tos that will hopefully permit other authors to do the same, but with a gentler learning curve and a lot less hassle.

I am also what Guy Kawasaki refers to as an artisanal publisher (from the outstanding book APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur—How to Publish a Book he wrote with Shawn Welch). As part of that process, I am documenting pitfalls, tips, tricks, and (hopefully!) sanity-preserving help to the writer who is looking into doing the same.

Your patronage helps me continue to give the widest reach possible to these tips and tools, the lessons learned. Your support allows me to mark the minefield's edge and safe(-ish!) passage lanes through these obstacles so that everyone who wants to traverse it may do so.

As a patron, you get to see most of those things first. The most affordable tier of patrons will get at least a month of early access to most of those blog posts, the how-to, tips & tricks, and advice articles that I write. Higher tiers can suggest and vote on topic ideas, and get extra behind-the-scenes stuff from other stuff that I do, conferences and "meet the author" events and stuff like that, and there is also a patronage tier for anyone who would like to name a character in a novel, as well as a few other perks (including some access to works-in-progress, including the opportunity to provide feedback).

So, it's not all posts to help writers, artisanal publishers, and authors looking to self-narrate their audiobook, it will also be early-access novel chapters, new poetry and short stories, and the opportunity to shape some of these, as a higher tier patron.

All of your support is amazing, and helps keep the lights on, the website up and running, and maybe occasionally eat. Thank you for considering being a patron!
