Welcome! It's time to revamp around here! If you've somehow reached this page without knowing who I am, my name is Bellamy Shoffner and I am the creator of Hold the Line magazine, a digital publication for parents and educators who care about social equity. HTL, as I affectionately call it, is a community-centered social entrepreneurship endeavor that stems far beyond the beautiful pages of my precious PDF publication. HTL hosts community events, a unique ongoing food drive, an annual retreat, and much more.

Starting mid-January 2019 all patrons (regardless of level, 'cause equity, y'all!) will have exclusive access to the following:
  • Weekly discussion topics based on current events or recent observations
  • Bi-monthly podcasts with other social justice advocates - these conversations will be frank and unapologetically real.
  • Digital mini-magazines 3x per year
  • Monthly printable quotes or coloring pages
  • Quarterly digital workshop or course
  • Discount for our annual retreat or other in-person events (there are more in the works!)

Fact:
I have a LOT of opinions and high standards when it comes to my positions on social change.

Also, fact: I HATE the idea of opening myself up to a public bashing each time I share one of these opinions. From complete strangers that are notoriously known for trolling Black women on Twitter and throughout social media to my own Facebook group members who get close-minded and hurt when I say something they don't like, I recognize that I don't have the personal capacity to open up my opinions to the world at large. I'm not interested in jeopardizing my health or well-being in this manner. I want to share more and write more in-depth essays but often I feel stuck.

Here, I am rejecting the idea that in order to do this work I have to subject myself to emotional and verbal abuse via the Internet. I have seen so many women of color be torn down on social media, the silence you often see from me is actually self-preservation.

I see this membership concept growing into a safe place where I can be straight up with you and you can do the same with me. I am not always going to be perfect and I am certainly not always going to agree with everyone but I can assure you that I will always do my best to be mindful, helpful, and productive in this space. I don't believe in being sensational to get likes but I do believe in the power of honest and respectful conversation.

Hey, Bellamy, should I be here?
I'm not sure, should you? I mean, I'm happy you're here and I hope you'll stay but do any of these ring true for you?
  • Do you care about kids and whether or not they grow up in a world where people care about other people inclusive of race, sexuality, and gender?
  • Do you long for a friend to talk about social justice issues with but don't know anyone who gets your passion?
  • Are you trying to figure out your place when it comes to activism but need some new ideas?
  • Or do you want to help other parents or teachers do the same?
I could go on but I suppose you get my point - if you are up for social justice content covering a broad range of topics and you like a sappy heartfelt essay or two about the woes of parenting through this lens, then this is probably a good place for you to be.

About Me:

Bellamy Shoffner is a writer and creative entrepreneur based in Charlottesville, Virginia. In late 2017, Bellamy developed, edited, and published the first issue of Hold the Line, a digital publication for parents and educators who are passionate about social equity and meaningful change. In the year since, HTL has expanded into free community events, dedicated giving to nonprofits, a successful ongoing fresh foods drive for a local day shelter, and an annual support in activism retreat. Hold the Line magazine has amassed readers nationwide and abroad. A lifelong advocate for community involvement, Bellamy seeks to ensure intersectional social justice is an imperative component of parenting for all families.
