My latest sculpture, Twelve Steps is showing at the Contemporary Textile Art Bienal in Guimaraes, Portugal from 1st September- 20th October. It is a black crocheted spiral staircase, whose steps glitter ever more as they climb, but at the top there is nothing, reflecting the false promises society offers us. Beneath the stairs are colourful crochet caves, depicting the goalless yet nourishing activities that we may forget about and tread upon as we climb; visiting the sea, reading by the fireside, music and dancing, becoming our own safe place in the storms of life, camping in nature, love and sex, walking in the nature, meditating and exploring the mysteries of the unknown. Don't tread on your dreams on the way up.

This autumn, I am embarking on a crochet journey of connection, Atlantic Thread, travelling by bus and ferry along the coast from the Connemara in Ireland to Agadir in Morocco, through Brittany, Spain and Portugal. It is inspired by the ancient connections along this coastline, where people have exchanged goods, skills and love for thousands of years; something to remember in this time of division. I will be visiting 42 independent yarn sellers, and each day creating a scarf and a piece for a blanket, connecting all the places. I am funding the trip through pledges for scarves, which I will make and send out along the way. The pledgers are requesting types and colours of yarn, and the yarns they choose will also be the ones used in the blanket, so they are all involved in the design of the blanket, so connecting all of them as well. I have embroidered a map of the journey, to be exhibited along with the blanket, and photos of the ocean and of the yarn sellers at each stopping point.

Keeping me working
$5 or more per creation 0 patrons
Sometimes I can work and make, sometimes I sell things, sometimes I just have to get totally absorbed in what I'm doing...obviously this makes for an insecure income. If you like what I do, consider supporting me to keep working on it.

A scarf made along the Atlantic Coast, with yarn from one of 42 independent yarn sellers in Ireland, Brittany, Spain, Portugal or Morocco. This is a coastline along which people have shared goods, skills and loves for thousands of years The yarn you choose for the scarf will also be used in a blanket, the final piece of this project, connecting all the places, yarn sellers, and you. If you choose this pledge, tell me what kind of yarn and what colour(s) you would like, and if you have a particular place along the journey you would like it to come from.
