Hello sailor, welcome aboard!

We are Nacha and Pablo, the crue of Casa Bote, a sailing school in the southern island of Chiloé, in Chile (S-42.575258, W-73.759890).

About a year ago we started teaching children and adults, men and women, a new way of discovering their environment and themselves: sailing! Through single and group lessons, we have been able to introduce more than 150 students to the technics for moving using the wind. Doing this, we found a big issue regarding the relationship of people living in (or near) the coast, and the sea. Many people just don´t care about it, and they show it by exploiting it and throwing their garbage straight at it. We decided to start doing something about this situation.

Changing people’s way of living is a long-term project. We think that education and interaction with the sea are the keys to make children and adults modify their acts and start caring about their natural patrimony.

With this in mind, and with the support of family, friends and stranger too, we raised some money to build our first two sail boats: the original wooden Optimist, a 1948’s design by Clark Mills. With these dinghies, and some other boats that started coming along, we were able to commence the mission.

Today our sailing school is fully active. We have weekly lessons with children, monthly courses for adults to get their licenses, and we have organized 4 big nautical events for free in the island. But we want more!

Please support this up raising project and help us to achieve this goals:
-Forming 10 new instructors for the island, certified by the Chilean Sailing Federation (FEDEVELA) and the World Sailing Federation (WSF)
-Visiting and registering places in the island with the ideal conditions for opening new schools
-Developing the “Instructor’s Guide for starting a sailing school”, a manual with all the instructions and knowledge to support the creation of this sport centers.
-Building 10 Optimists with the families that will be involved in the new schools.
-Building a traditional Chilote sailboat to help connecting people with their roots.

We invite you to follow our steps as we continue our mission! We will be posting videos with exclusive content about the progress of the projects for our Patrons.

Thank you very much for your time, good winds!
