Cine Pobre is a self-funded filmmaking genre without a set of stylistic criteria nor format boundaries, involving many geographically separated creators with at least two things in common: a strong desire to tell our story and to do so with our own resources. Cine Pobre as a cultural meme is based on the musing of Jean Cocteau, one of the 20th century's most prolific artists, that film becomes art only when its materials are as inexpensive as pencil and paper. Cine Pobre proves there are more stories in the world, more eccentrics and visionaries, than there is film to capture them. Cine Pobre has evolved from being an idealistic rural film festival into a global niche player by creating "The Wellspring of Self Funded Film". Since inception in 2002 Cine Pobre has autonomously produced 8 timely films, 3 of which with sustaining notable international acclaim. So far we have catalogued over 10,000 self funded films from 80 countries and currently hundreds of filmmakers from around the world are registering between 200 and 400 new films each month at cinepobre.org. Those who have teasers are immediately registered, reviewed and published at cinepobre.org where over 2000 trailers are already online. This work requires lots of energy and time, well over 100 person-hrs each week. Cine Pobre has always been free of advertising and free of charge, previously deriving its budget from ancillaries, recently expired. Help us with a scanty fraction of your disposable income and pitch in so this precious "intersection of culture and individual capabilities" can keep growing!
