I've always been a fan of Anno – Anno 1602 was one of the first games I ever played. Even today, it still runs ok and is fun to play. However, what really annoys me is the 4:3 format and low resolution.

That's why I started working on recreating Anno 1602 in a modern game engine using the original assets. You can see the current state over at

Rendering islands works quite well already, next on my list is adding the animations (like moving flags and workers). Then I'll work on adding some actual logic to the buildings, i.e. make them require and produce goods, just like in the original game.
