About Cody Charles

Who am I?
Hello! My name is Cody Charles (he/they). I’m a southerner at heart, but currently living in the Midwest. At the moment, I work in higher education in a multicultural center. I’ve been in this field for 14 years professionally, with experiences in multicultural affairs, student housing, student leadership, recruitment and retention, and student organization advising. Moreover, I am a writer! I write about higher education, equity and justice, and pop culture. I am a huge film and television person as well, so I love writing about the media we consume.

Who is this space for?
This space is for those who genuinely want to center radical self work, even though it is uncomfortable and implicates us all in the mess. This space is for those who want to use writing as a tool to care for themselves and reflect on the world around them (you do not have to be a writer). This space is for those who know they need more than a one time "diversity training," and are prepared to commit to a long-term community. This space is for those who appreciate pop culture, and using it as a tool to learn and grow. This space is for those who work or care about higher education, as education is where many inequities are illuminated. This space is for all ethnicities, all genders, all abilities, all classes, and beyond. However, white folks, please know that I will center Black and brown folks at dynamic intersections in this space. Cisgender heterosexual Black and brown folks, please know that this community may challenge you as well, as I will center queer and trans folks in this space.

This space is NOT for those who need convincing that institutional -isms are real.

My hope is that we are able to create a dynamic and intersectional community. I have intentionally loaded the $5 tier with the heart of the resources and discussion, as to make it more accessible to folks on a budget.

What do I write about?

Below are a few of my articles (an idea on the type of community we will build):

If you choose to subscribe to this Patreon:
  • please join because you believe in the work that I do.
  • please join because you have benefitted from my free labor in the past, and are now interested in supporting my future work financially.
  • please join because you are committed to the journey of radical self work.

And because I appreciate your radical support, I will offer several perks. My thinking around these perks (and tiers) is to help build an actual community that centers joy and learning. I’m new to this so some perks may work swimmingly, and others may need to be workshopped as we journey together.

Please consider joining my Patreon! Look over the tiers and your bank account to make a solid decision. If you prefer to make a one time donation, please give at: PayPal.Me/CodyCharles or cash.me/$CodyCharles
