Hi folks, this is Conrad Keely - musician, composer and illustrator of the band ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. And this is my Patreon!

In this environment I plan to share my creative process with my patrons and supporters, as I work on various art and music projects, including the band’s tenth studio album, and also my second solo album. You are all invited to follow me through the process of recording and production - both visually and musically, creatively and technically. During the process I'll be composing songs and producing artwork for both albums, so it promises to be a busy time.

You are invited to share the details of that journey, and insights into the process of making art and music in this new digital age. Along the way I’ll be talking about the gear I’m using and my personal opinions about said gear. This will include the gear I’ve smashed because I didn't like it.

Because visual art is such an integral part of music-making for me, I’ll also be sharing the process of creating album art, and the making of illustrations to accompany sounds. Both these journeys have always been, in my own made-up pseudo-philosophy, inseparable. I call this philosophy inseparablism, a word I made up just now.

I do hope you’ll tag along on this journey, be part of it, and even enjoy some of the benefits of this frequently haphazard sarabande across the creative frontiers.

For ye noble spirits who sign upon thereof as patrons I will be sharing a library of copyright-free audio loops and samples I record (usually first thing before breakfast), sharing in-studio videos with the band (you can watch us argue), over-the-shoulder videos as I draw and paint, and down the road hopefully be chatting on line whenever the opportunity presents.  For upper tier patrons I will be sending out prints of my recent and developing art-works, and for high-rollers some original sketches by me.

Along the way I will be sharing videos where I will go more in-depth on a wide range of topics - everything from what I think of the latest Arturia Minibrute 2S, the basics of music theory and why song-writers ought not to be so afraid of it, what I’ve learned from figure drawing classes, why I smashed my Cintiq Companion 2 drawing tablet to bits and bought an iPad Pro instead, basic and intermediate methods of creating synth sounds (a learning process I’m still in the middle of), and perhaps even discussions of some of my favorite albums.

I invite you to join me on this journey into complete uncertainty and take part in the process of art and music-making during this exciting period in this planet’s history. I truly believe the creative tools we possess right now at our fingertips means we are living in most potentially creative and artistic age our world has ever seen.

That’s exciting, right?
So let's get creative!
