Any artist with a family will tell you that one of the hardest things to do in life is to support your family as you'd like and put a roof over their heads while still trying to practise your art. Art just doesn't pay enough to cover a mortgage, buy food and fuel, pay for education and dentists, and so on. In that sense, I'm no different from any other struggling artist. Devoting my time to my creative pursuits while still paying the bills is what every artist aspires to.

I've been a musician most of my life, and I've been composing since my early teens. But all that was pushed aside when I needed to feed my family, and for most of my working life I've had to earn a living doing things as far from artistic (and therefore as far from rewarding and fulfilling) as it's possible to get. Only in the last few years have I tried to get back into my music.

If I could earn enough of a living from it to enable me to dump the soul- and time-destroying parts of my life, that would be ideal. Apart from feeding my soul, it would also allow me to work on and improve my compositions and my arranging and recording skills.

Which brings us here. Over the last handful of years I've managed to release five albums of original instrumental music. I believe my artistry and skills have improved with each release, and I need to keep that going. It's like oxygen.

But life continually gets in the way. My sixth album has been "in progress" for far too long. Several tracks are nearly finished, but others are still only partially done and more are needed to complete the album. Why the delay? Because I've again needed to devote my waking hours to earning a "real" living, which has often meant working a full-time job during the day and doing freelance work at nights and weekends.

You can hear some of my older tracks, and early versions of some of the new tracks, on my Soundcloud account: https://soundcloud.com/craigdelahoy

And then, of course, when this album finally released, I'll want to start immediately on the next one!

I have several tracks partially written and recorded. They need to be properly mixed and mastered, and then more tracks are needed. This sixth album is now about eighteen months overdue because of my need to spend too many waking hours earning money to pay the bills.
