Wan't to have access to cool designs with total rights to do whatever you want with the files?

Hi!

My name is Erling Castillo and im a passionate 3d printing designer.
I started with CAD and designs about ten years ago and when the desktop printers became more affordable I got myself a Flashforge Finder and been busy the last 2-3 years making printable designs.

At first I printed lightsaber designs, wich I sold on Etsy shop. I discovered I was really good at capturing detail and making that printable. I have designed and printed insane ammounts of designs since the first print, much more then just lightsaber design.

However the lightsaber design was something customers liked and many came back several times to get more and different designs. I really wanted to make more then just lightsaber but after I got some attention from "Nerdist":

that became somewhat hard to diverge from.
I have many times been asked if I can share or sell my STL files and I haven't felt that was something I felt comfortable with before. Handing over your STL files can mean your design gets spread and someone else starts to print and claim it's their own design and work.

Each of my designs that I offered in my shop, came with countless of hours of testing and tweaking, all from the wall thickness to different kinds of threads in a build. Not all realize them ammount of time that goes into a design, I want my designs to be functional aswell as great looking.

What I offered in my shop wasn't even the coolest designs or biggest designs I did. A lot of my work never got to be offered to others. I want to change that now. This Frostmourne design for example, never got to see the light of day and was only made in one sample:

There are many many "designers" claiming to have made something "ready for print", but most often they only show you simple screen captures or basic renderings of that claim. I call those designers "screen designers" because they can make something look good on the screen, but most often that's it. When you then start to print those part, you notice the cuts that have been made are not along already visable lines in the design (the whole design) or the different parts in a assembly don't have anything to guide the parts when glueing them for example. To put it simple, they arent functional, they just look good.

If you then lack some CAD or otherwise designs skills, you can't do much to modify the parts, nor are you allowed too since you don't have such a licence. You're stuck with what you got.

I recently finished my 1,5 year education to become a "3d Printing Specialist" and felt now is the time for me to branch out and do other things. That's why I'm making this Patronage page because I want too:

A, get more time to design and develope new things

B, perhaps invest in better and bigger printers

C, stil offer my designs, but with more freedom

I checked my 3 printers at home and they have together in the last 2 - 3 years printed over 13.000 hours. But the ordered prints have meant that much time has been diverged away from possible new designs towards printing instead. And since I have an Etsy shop, much of the time better spent on design, has gone into packing and shipping stuff.

It's time for me to do new designs and offer you, should you want to help me out and get something cool out of it also, the possability to print the design or perhaps even develope it further.

For more info about some of the different designs I have made check out my Facebook page also, but I haven't posted all of my designs there yet.

Tiers
Level 1
$5 or more per month 0 patrons
Level 1 tier is just for any free donations should you want to help out, but not asking for anything in return.
Level 2
$15 or more per month 0 patrons
Level 2 access gets:

  • access to my STL files, ready for printing.
    Important notice:
Level 2 has access to less items compared to higher Tiers.
For example, a hilt design will besides the actual hilt also have access to blade plugs or perhaps a chassi. Those are not accessable at Level 2 tier.

  • You have full rights from my behalf to sell the prints you produce using my files. Credit or other form of mentioning of me being the source creator of the design is something I would appreciate very much if you sell or otherwise market your work based on my designs.
Level 3
$30 or more per month 0 of 10 patrons
Level 3 tier gets:

  • More items: besides basic design access, some designs will have something extra that the lower tiers don't have access to.
For example, a hilt design will besides the actual hilt also have access to blade plugs or perhaps a chassi.

  • 1 month (atleast, might be more sometimes) early access to new designs before lower tiers.
  • Access to my STL files, ready for printing AND also the design files in STEP format or .f3d format (Fusion 360). This allows you to make your own modifications to the files so you can customize them to your own liking.
  • You can make suggestions on new designs to come.

  • You have full rights from my behalf to sell the prints you produce using my files. However, the design files are NOT something you're allowed to sell. IF you however make certain changes to them and by doing so come up with something that's obviously new, I have no problem with that. Please contact me prior to doing so as courtesy please.
