INTRODUCTION: WHY I THINK YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK - The introduction promises to employ natural philosophy - modern physics – and critical thinking to arrive at new philosophical conclusions throughout the book. The aim is to reconcile science, religion; and seemingly irrational emotion driven belief in general. This is done in a way so as to satisfy the scientifically minded and reason-based sceptic - into whose life the spiritual influence has encroached. Also, the purpose of the book is to invite the faithful to adopt critical thinking, reasoning and to wrestle with the divine. The enemy of reason is un-reason; and the offspring of unreason is nonsense. Given a set goal, the wisest path is the most direct and ergonomic one.

CHAPTER 1: METAPHYSICS; CERTAINTY, DOUBT AND ITS SHADOWS -MODALITY AND EVIDENCE - Radical Cartesian doubt is the starting point of this philosophical journey. The reality of existence itself is questioned. By realising a modification of the Cartesian certainty - “Cogito ergo sum”; “I think, therefore I am” to “there is experience, therefore there is existence” – the book solidly defines four philosophically sound realities. With some caveats, one of these realities is that of the waking state: The Modal and Evident or MAE reality. How do we truly know that we are not dreaming? Unlike the discontinuous and non-functional dream state of successive nights; in the MAE reality, destiny is a function of history.

CHAPTER 2: EPISTEMOLOGY; THE HABIT OF FORCE, INTERACTION & EXPERIENCE - Sensation, thinking or experience is defined ultimately as the interaction of the fundamental forces of nature via neurological electrochemical signals; electromagnetism - whose force carrier is a photon – the quanta of light. The quantum case is reversible and without history, whereas the large scale scenario gives the universe something to remember. As such Physis: Mother Nature – like any honest lady – will tells us that for events to be memorable to her; size matters. This fact leads to a brief discussion of the quantum universe at the instant of the pre-inflated big bang and the reversibility of time for subatomic systems such as the entire primordial cosmos. Temporal reversibility suggests a lack of causality and a universe without the need of a prime mover or creator god. By definition; the universe is self-creating.

CHAPTER 3: ETHICS; REBELLION WITHOUT A CAUSE - Here the problem of evil is solved. Also, the ontological argument is disassembled. These developments render the concept of a single omniscient, omnipotent – and - benevolent deity rationally unthinkable. Coupled by both the lack of: Evidence and the requirement of a universe-creating deity; we are beholden to none but ourselves for ethical behaviour. Despite this, the possibility that humans are the children of at least one lesser god is entertained throughout. By argument, the authority of divinely inspired ethics is conclusively dispelled. This is because an all-capable deity is not necessarily trustworthy; and obedience to it may not guarantee reward or salvation from damnation. On the other hand, an all-good deity may lack the capability to reward or save its obedient worshippers despite its best intentions. Ergo, worship is either misplaced or unnecessary. Hence religion should be a private indulgence; and theocracy - unthinkable by the rationally minded. Ontologically; an all-capable and all-good deity in any universe or world is like a hungry tiger in the shoji partitioned rooms of a traditional Japanese house. For as long as there is the potential of suffering anywhere in existence, the deity should prevent it– and we should experience none at all. If prey exists in the same house as the powerful and hungry tiger, then it will not be safe for long. The deity and tiger are not containable within any universe, world or room respectively. Therefore, there nowhere and at no time in the multiverse or all of existence; can, does or will ever exist an all-capable and all-good god. As if this were not enough, the “tests of faith” that the religious dub to explain the vicissitudes and sorrows of life, are completely unnecessary because: A god who knows everything need not test anything… or anyone... more chapters to follow soon
