Welcome! Many know me from my Instagram account, @swellvalleybloodpulse, where I write huge reviews of novels and academic books, and also as the author of the novel, "The Loud Earth." My reviews on my Instagram account have always been very popular and I hope now you'll be able to support them with a couple of dollars per month. From now on, all my reviews will be posted on my Patreon, including reviews of novels, feminist theory, queer theory, critical theory, and (U.S.) Southern studies. There will be 4-6 reviews per month.

After my experience with mental breakdown and The System this year, I want to write critically about what it means to live with chronic, complex mental illness. There is a small and growing Mad activist community but many people don't know about it.

My PhD is on representations of mental illness in U.S. Southern fiction by women (so far, Dorothy Allison and LeAnne Howe). I hope to get back to it by the end of 2018. In the meantime, I will continue to write about feminist, queer, and critical theory in a way that is enjoyable and accessible. Blending social media and academia is good for all of us.

I'll contribute to this important field by writing about my experience as a psychiatric survivor and consumer, as well as more theoretical cutting edge Mad studies stuff. The voices of people with (serious) mental illness have been ignored for so long that this field is pretty exciting.

Let's remove the authority from psychiatric institutions and "experts," and return it to those of us who suffer and function daily.

Support a Mad scholar if you can.

I hope with a little financial relief I'll have more time to interact, answer questions, and bring together community discussion. Depending on the support here, I'll also plan for a podcast, video, short essays, or whatever content my Patrons would like to see!
