Hi!
My name is Erica. I'm really excited to be joining this platform for creatives.

I've been writing stories and poetry since I was young. I never considered that this could be a career, not for me anyway. After spending many years in the mind-numbing sector of office support, I realised this was not the way I wanted to spend my days. Working with words is the only way for me to truly feel alive. Alice Hofmann said it best, "Books may well be the only true magic." And writing may well be my only true talent.

Following my epiphany, I enrolled for a Bachelors Degree in Languages and Literature with Creative Writing as specialisation. After nearing completion of my first year and bagging a distinction for drama (playwriting), narrative, and poetry, a series of unfortunate events derailed my studies and my life unexpectedly. I'd run out of money and out of love but my dream was still there. I continued writing and rewriting until my fingers bled. So, here I am now with nothing to show but my collection of (mostly angry-chic) poetry and two completed fiction manuscripts - albeit many drafts later (much like a painting, a book never really feels finished). Anyway, the time has come to let them breathe.

Projects
Supernova is the first in a series of three books for young adults, about a young girl who learns her father, a man whom she's never met, is not from Earth, and the grand adventure that follows to find him.

Wildlings is about a woman whose hallucinations caused by a brain tumour starts to manifest into something else, something real, ultimately altering the course of not only her life but the those who love her. Both books are of the speculative fiction genre. I like to write about ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things.

Why Patreon?
English is not my first language. Even if it was, I know that I am not capable of editing my own work. This is the only way forward for me, especially if I am to self-publish. Please help me to raise funds to pay for professional editing services for both of my manuscripts. I'm from Cape Town, South Africa, which means that every dollar pledged is worth quite a lot in rands to me.

Thank You
I'm looking forward to working with you, to contribute to other creatives' projects, and to create more content here. Thank you for taking part in this journey with me.
